hello,
after a fresh install of Q4os everything works great even the crappy wifi dongle...but no sound on the hdmi monitor. with the ubuntu image for the pi one sound and video were working great but the wifi dongle is not. as I prefer Q4os I am requesting help to solve it.
I have the speaker icon and I have tested all possible configurations from fresh installs, with no success, any help is very much apreciated

Please first try to follow recommendations here https://www.q4os.org/dqa011.html#install.3 and post results here.
Do you use 'Q4OS ARM port' https://www.q4os.org/dqa012.html or 'Raspberry Pi port' https://www.q4os.org/dqa010.html ?

hi
I did the instqllqtion in 2 steps
1st---Iinstallqtion of debian for the orange pi one server version downloaded from https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-one/
2nd---I used these lines :
$ wget q4os.org/downloads/q4os-setup.sh
$ su
# sh q4os-setup.sh
and voila I got Q4OS fully installed

You have incorrectly tried to run 'artsplay' as root. Please run commands as a user, if marked by '$', and as root if marked by '#'. So, try to follow steps in https://www.q4os.org/dqa011.html#install.3 once more, and paste output here to analyze.

Ok,
as I forgot the cable at the office I had to wait until today to test...
strongarm@orangepione:~/Desktop$ artsplay /opt/trinity/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav
strongarm@orangepione:~/Desktop$
no sound at all, no error message... nothing...
and then :
strongarm@orangepione:~/Desktop$ artsshell terminate
sound server terminated
strongarm@orangepione:~/Desktop$ aplay /opt/trinity/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav
Playing WAVE '/opt/trinity/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 22050 Hz, Mono
strongarm@orangepione:~/Desktop$
It says Playing wave, but there is no sound even with loud volume...

Well, did you check mixer levels thoroughly as described in https://www.q4os.org/dqa011.html#install.3 ?
If so, try to run in terminal:
$ aplay -l
$ aplay -v /opt/trinity/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav
$ amixer
and post output here to analyze.

hello,
yes I triple checked mixers levels.

Please try to go to the mixer in systemtray once more. In top right corner, you should be able to switch between two sound cards. Please set mixer levels for both. If the sound will not work, run 'alsamixer' in terminal and try to tune mixer levels for both cards as well.

MM = mute, it's difficult to see from the post but if the MM is under Master or speaker or headphones (whichever you use) then you will hear no sound. I would unmute everything and see if that works.
And a tip, enclose your output above in code blocks and it will appear more readable put [ code ] at the beginning and [ /code ] at the end. Remove the spaces they are just to allow to display the command in the post.

Alsa and TDE configuration looks well. Does audio work within plain 'Armbian' https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-one/ setup ?

@Pieater
Please run another commands in terminal:
$ artsshell terminate
$ aplay -v -D plughw:0,0 /opt/trinity/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav
$ aplay -v -D plughw:1,0 /opt/trinity/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav
and post results here to analyze.

with armbia the sound does not work, how ever with ubuntu the sound of the OPi works...with armbian the wifi dongle works but with ubuntu in spite of the 10+ methods tried to install the drivers, there was no way to make the wifi dongle work.

Sorry to keep asking for help...but still no sound...I can just hear one sound that is played by:
aplay -v -D plughw:1,0 /opt/trinity/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav
after that, no sound at all in any application, is there a command line instruction so the setup that is able to play sound keeps working AFTER the command aplay -v -D plughw:1,0 /opt/trinity/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav ?
Thanks a lot for helping me
