when trying to launch a vm i am met with this message
VT-x is being used by another hypervisor (VERR_VMX_IN_VMX_ROOT_MODE).
VirtualBox can't operate in VMX root mode. Please disable the KVM kernel extension, recompile your kernel and reboot (VERR_VMX_IN_VMX_ROOT_MODE).
Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
i know this is more an oracle problem but how exactly do i disable KVM and recompile the kernel without breaking my install of q4os
any hints or clues would be greatly appreciated

Are you trying to run Q4OS inside a VM or run Virtualbox host on Q4OS ?

- What way exactly did you install Virtualbox application on Q4OS ?
- Do you have secure boot enabled ?

i tried installing with a .deb file the lazy way... but upon looking through the forum there are not currently any successful installs on my version of Debian
i have discovered that it is a problem with my release Debian 13 Trixie not currently supporting vbox install its just one problem after another im probably better off
making a new install of an earlier version Debian 12 bookworm.
so i am going to buy a new hard drive install the earlier version of Debian and basically start again the joys because the alternative is to wait for Trixie to have support for virtual box which could take months.
in this case the latest is not the greatest

If you would use Q4OS 6 or 5 we can recommend you to use dedicated Virtualbox installer for Q4OS, see https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3624
