Is it possible to fully uninstall and/or prevent KATE from Autostarting to the Tray area?

Run in termianl:
$ sudo apt autoremove kate
and reboot

Thanks mate! But KATE still starts a Tray icon and also stays in the Start Menu. However, the program cannot be started, as it says that the software is uninstalled.

Yes, it shows KATE Sessions, but of course nothing can be started. It's really weird that KATE also stays in the Start menu.

So go to system settings > autostart and remove kate shortcut from autostarting

You can safely remove 50frst-rsession script as it's useless and reboot. Plasma may keep trying open the script with Kate. Post back the result.

Nope.. still in Tray and Start Menu. Did a file search on KATE, and there are still many directories and files left. Submitting 2 Screenshots.

Would you post a screenshot of kate in tray ? What happens if you left/right-click on the icon ?

If you install Kate again, run it and disable systray actions:
Open Kate and navigate to Settings > Configure Kate.
Go to the Application tab.
In the Window section, locate the Minimize to System Tray option.
Disable this option.

So install Kate again, run it and disable systray actions:
Open Kate and navigate to Settings > Configure Kate.
Go to the Application tab.
In the Window section, locate the Minimize to System Tray option.
Disable this option.
Reboot and see if still sitting in systray

I discovered that KATE has 2 applications, a regular and a Plasma Desktop version (see picture). I had both installed. The Plasma version is probably included with the Q4 installation, which I missed, and also installed the regular one. The Plasma version was still installed after your assistance, which you couldn't know. Both are uninstalled now. But and the icon in the Tray bar is gone, but the icon in the Start Menu is still stuck. When I right-click and request Edit Application, I get the window in the 2nd picture. So still a bit wonky.

Since Kate was a stock item in plasma, when you uninstall it will will remain this link so its a one click reinstall or install if it wasn't installed in the first place. You actually have to remove the .desktop file out of /usr/share/applications if you don't want the one click installer in the applications menu.

I'll look at it tonight, when I get home, but that should be the path on a plasma install.

no problem I am VPN to my network at the house, but I don't have my computer on so I can't see it  on my Q4os install
