I use the TDE DarkOnAir theme. However, I noted that the Kate editor displayed very muted "highlighted syntax" on a dark screen that was basically unreadable.
After unsuccessfully checking to see if I could fix the dark-on-dark Kate theme via Kate's Settings or Kate rc files, I used Synaptic to uninstall Kate-Trinity and install the normal Kate, this fixed the problem and I could easily switch to a readable Kate dark theme ... Settings > Window Color Scheme > Breeze Dark.
I did notice that uninstalling Kate-Trinity also removed DarkOnAir from my color themes. Fortunately, I had previously made my own very slightly modified DarkOnAir theme that worked okay.

We can confirm this Q4OS issue, Kate-trinity with the dark themes is quite blind. We consider this a native Q4OS bug and it's already on our bug list. Thanks for reporting.

We consider this a native Q4OS bug...
We have investigated a bit deeper and need to revise the above. We can still confirm the issue, but it's reproducible even on pure Debian/Trinity with dark colors, so it's definitely not a Q4OS bug, but a native upstream Trinity desktop bug.

I installed Q4OS Trinity to a second disk partition using the same DarkOnAir WM theme. I checked Kate-Trinity. At first glance, it seemed to open in a corresponding dark theme. Unfortunately, yes it was dark but not really useable.
I used Settings > Configure Kate > Fonts & Color > tdevelop - Normal ... to make my own dark color scheme. My color scheme works well for my most frequent use - editing HTML and a bit of PHP and Javascript code. As long as I don't change to one of the built-in color schemes, my dark color scheme is persistent. I am hesitant to work out how to save it externally (if that is possible) after I once clicked on "New" but found my work wasted and reset to a scratch scheme "Kate - Normal" that is useless for dark WM themes.
Example of my dark color scheme (for HTML) and font / colors chosen:
