How much hard drive space does the MX tools package require?

@daver
About 50MB for Trinity desktop, 60MB for Plasma.

Sounds good. MX Tools work great on Gemini.
Are there any plans when they will be ported for Aquarius?
I already tried to install them on Aquarius, but the device goes into emergency mode when booting.

Re: MX tools for Debian and Q4OS

We are currently working hard on providing MX tools for Aquarius. It should be available in the first half of September.

Unfortunately MX tools for Gemini are not compatible with Aquarius.

Re: MX tools for Debian and Q4OS

We have released an early version 5.1-a1 of MX Tools for Q4OS 5 Aquarius and Debian 12 Bookworm.

Download installers for Q4OS 5 Aquarius: https://sourceforge.net/projects/q4os/f … ntal_apps/ , an alternative download:  https://github.com/q4os-installers/mx-t … ag/v5.1-a1

It should work well, but in some aspects it may not yet be as worked-out as the tools for Gemini. Expect a more elaborate release in the first half of September. We would appreciate any feedback so we can gather information and fix possible bugs.

I installed MX Tools for Q4OS Aquarius, with the installer MS skin, it works great in the first tools I used (I was on MX last year). They are very well integrated with KDE (which is a variant of MX Linux, admittedly)

I have been on Q4OS since the release of Aquarius, wanting to discover this project on the occasion of Debian 12, and everything is working very well. I'm a fan of the project. Q4OS has become my daily driver (work + extra-professional activities) under KDE.

What I like bp are your projects but in the meantime we have a solid stable Debian base with your tools in addition. And the Trinity desktop if I have to recondition computers... I'm really convinced by Q4OS (I've been on Linux since 2008, at the time I had leaked MS Vista)

(French user, sorry for my english)

Re: MX tools for Debian and Q4OS

I also installed the MX Tools for Aquarius 5 (Plasma) to test. I was successful with the MX Snapshot (case: without changing user/password and using the dd option for non MX Linux distribution). Next step was using the MX USB Live tool to get a starting USB-stick. Starting the Live-USB was fine. Finally I used the Debian Installer (Calamares) to install from the Live-USB. Restart was succesful (no VM used, UEFI install, no encryption). Testing other MX Tools options in the next days...

Re: MX tools for Debian and Q4OS

Hello,
today I've tested doing a snapshot with reset of user/password (case: for distribution) with the mx-snapshot tool but I did not exclude (you can unselect this by mouse-click) the folder "Downloads" and the user-interface-settings (I've changed the background-wallpaper). But this does not function. After starting the Live-USB, neither the content of folder "Downloads", nor the new background wallpaper were in place. Only new installed applications were present. One of these new applications I've marked as favorites did not appear under favorites. So it seems, that the selection what to include/exclude does not function. One is able to work with the exclusion list directly, but I've not tested, if the problem is only with the mouse-click-selection but also with the direct edited exclusion list.

Some other observations: While starting from the Live-USB there appears on screen, that /boot/efi is not found, using another Boot/efi, but starting is without problems. After starting the q4os welcome screen, there is a pop up of the MX Linux welcome screen. There appears the button to install MX-Linux (what not functions, cause there is no MX-Linux to install). Could be disturbing, cause you have to use the debian installer from the menu to install the Live-usb. Perhaps to restrict the MX-Linux welcome screen on the first start directly?.

Re: MX tools for Debian and Q4OS

Hi, q4osteam.
I want to install Q4OS Aquarius 32 bit on multiple older machines and I would like to do it like this:
1) Do the minimal install of Q4OS on the first machine
2) Install some additional software, including MX Snapshot (but none of the other MX Tools)
3) Configure the machine with respect to desktop theme, keyboard shortcuts, application settings etc.
4) Take a snapshot and use the installable ISO for installing Q4OS on all other machines
However, as far as I can tell, the mx-tools repository cannot be added by using qrepoadd in Q4OS Aquarius. Will it be possible to cherry pick from the MX Tools in the 32 bit version of Q4OS Aquarius by using qrepoadd just like it is possible in Q4OS Gemini?

Yes, it will be possible in an upcoming Q4OS update. Meanwhile, you can add repository manually, just follow:

$ echo 'deb http://q4os.org/qextrepo/ bookworm-mx-cn main' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mxtools.list
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install mx-snapshot

For 64bit machines, we recommend to use "s4-snapshot" application https://sourceforge.net/projects/q4os/f … ntal_apps/ , what is actually single application fork of mx-snapshot optimized for Q4OS/Debian

So, where are we at on this?   Are the MX Tools ready?  Finalized?

Thanks
