Very confused trash

Hi

I know I have raised this issue before but it seems to be back.

I have lots of items in Trash, but right click on Recycle Bin shows Empty Trash is greyed out.

Attached screen shot shows the current state. Trash is owned by root.

Puzzled!

It is very probably connected to this issue http://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1193 , already reported here https://bugs.trinitydesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2729

Does the trash recover, if you logoff/login ?

That is correct.

Re: Very confused trash

I know it's a little off topic but I saw the photo in the trash  and would like to know how to get the Win XP icons.
Thanks

I wasn't sure if it was related - it's no big deal but just puzzling as I know that it is a random problem.

Booted up this morning - still the same problem.

Thanks anyway - will wait and see if resolved.

Update:-
So I emptied the trash folder by hand, then dropped a few files in and it worked as expected.
Previously there was a lot of stuff in there - probably 150mb of RAW files that I had dumped in there earlier.
I'll have a fiddle and see if I can reproduce the issue.

No problem - this is the starting point for all things Windows theme - http://xpq4.sourceforge.net/ get http://xpq4.sourceforge.net/setup_xpq4_1.9-a1_all.esh

Once that is installed you can either use the different paradigms or just mix and match using the tools in Control Centre.

I seem to recall that after I'd installed XPQ4 I went into /opt/trinity/share/icons and copied the relevant icon folders to a folder in my home called .icons   That would normally be hidden so yuo need to enable hidden files in Konqueror and create the .icons folder.

Doing this means that the icons will available for future use on their own if you wish.

I really really really recommend you install Dai's theme backup tool https://www.q4os.org/forum/attachment.php?item=161 and make a backup of your current settings first - it's a real gem of an app!

There's also this one https://www.q4os.org/forum/attachment.php?item=164  which provides a way of adding other config files to the backup - it's really good if you need that facility as you can add other odd configs if needed.

If you are interested there is a fairly simple way to create a new splash screen so that when you log in / start up you get a unified background for both the login and desktop - looks quite good in action too.

Re: Very confused trash

@bin
Does the trash work sometimes correctly for you (for example immediately after login), or is the option 'Emty Wastebin' always unavailable ?

EDIT:

Yes, please post as much info as possible for us to be able to reproduce it. We will investigate possible connections, and will report it for TDE devs, thanks.

OK - I have been able to reproduce the issue, but it may be a bit of an edge case.

I use a photo viewer/editor windows program called Faststone - it works fine under a basic Wine install - handles RAW files quite happily with no problems.

If I delete files from with the application it reports that the files will be moved to the Recycle Bin - and off they go.

In that case the Desktop Wastebin does not show a file icon nor does it allow Right Click>Empty. The files are in trash:/ Essentially it is exactly as originally reported.

However if I delete via Konqueror then behaviour is as expected.

So - although the files do get to trash:/ their presence does not trigger something that would update the Wastebin.

Re: Very confused trash

We are now able to reproduce this issue, it affects wine applications in general. We are going to investigate it more, and will keep posting here. The most easy steps to reproduce:
- install 'wine'
- run from terminal
$ wine notepad
- click Menu -> File -> Open...
- navigate to some testing file
- right mouse click -> Delete -> confirm moving to trash
- trash is showing empty, even the deleted item is in
