I have installed the oxygencursors package und want to use "Oxygen Hot Orange" which is located in /usr/share/icons/oxy-hot_orange.
I have tried to manually put it into /usr/share/icons/default/cursor.theme copying the syntax from /usr/share/icons/DMZ-Black/cursor.theme:
[Icon Theme]
Inherits=Oxygen Hot Orange
but it doesn't work. I also tried to change the content of /etc/alternatives/x-cursor-theme:
[Icon Theme]
Name = Oxygen Hot Orange
Comment = Oxygen mouse theme. Oxygenize your desktop!
but it still doesn't work. Then I put a symbolic link into /opt/trinity/share/icons/ and changed the default.tde
drwxr-xr-x 9 root root 4096 Apr 28 17:41 crystalsvg
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 31 Apr 28 17:39 default.tde -> /usr/share/icons/oxy-hot_orange
drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 4096 Apr 28 15:37 hicolor
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Apr 30 19:47 ikons
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Apr 30 19:47 kdeclassic
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Apr 30 19:47 kids
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Apr 30 19:47 locolor
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Apr 30 19:47 mono
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 31 Mai 1 19:00 oxy-hot_orange -> /usr/share/icons/oxy-hot_orange
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Apr 30 19:47 slick
but it still doesn't work. I also tried to put the string in quotes "Oxygen Hot Orange" but it still doesn't work.
Does anyone have an idea what to do to get it working?

You can set it for a user:
Control Panel -> Peripherals -> Mouse -> Cursor theme tab
or system wide in terminal:
$ sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme

Thanks for your reply. I recognize that the user settings overwrite the system defaults after login, which is the wanted behavior.
