Q4OS 4 Gemini, following the Debian upstream lifecycle, has reached end-of-life. See https://www.debian.org/News/2026/20260831 . We strongly urge users to install a supported Q4OS version: Andromeda/Trixie or oldstable Aquarius/Bookworm.
Although we always recommend a fresh Q4OS installation, experienced users who are aware of the potential pitfalls of a major upgrade may follow the upgrade path described here https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4323

For those who would still want go with now unsupported Q4OS Gemini.
We will keep Q4OS-4 Gemini repositories up and online, but not supported with
some of updates.
Debian ended Long Term Support for Debian 11 'bullseye' on 31 August 2026.
The Debian security repository for version 11 is being withdrawn. Its package index still
lists everything while the files themselves are already being removed, so some downloads
fail with a 404 error, and the repository metadata expires on 7 September 2026. After that
date apt rejects the repository completely and every 'apt update' ends with an error.
You do not need to fix this by hand. A Q4OS base system update disables the discontinued
repository for you, just run a normal system update.
If you want to correct it right away, comment the entry out yourself:
$ sudo sed -i 's@^deb\(.*bullseye-security\)@##deb\1@' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/20_debian.list
The main Q4OS 4 and Debian 11 repositories are not affected and stay enabled, so Gemini keeps working
and you can still install and update applications as usual.
What you no longer get are Debian security fixes for version 11. If possible, upgrade to a
currently supported release, Q4OS 5 Aquarius or Q4OS 6 Andromeda. If you need to stay on
Gemini, extended security coverage for Debian 11 is available commercially from Freexian,
an independent third party not affiliated with Q4OS:
https://www.freexian.com/lts/extended/
We are able to provide commercial extended support for Q4OS Gemini
for interested or corporate subjects. Just ask at support@q4os.org
