Unable to login after sucessfully running winsetup 6.8

Hi, I am new to this forum and ti Q4OS.
I wanted to try out Q4OS alongside my windows 10 pro installation.
My host machine is 64-bit Windows 10 pro and I downloaded the latest q4os-winsetup-6.6-r1.zip from SourceForge.
I unzipped and ran the executable.
I filled in the initial form asking location, language, username, password etc.
For language I entered British(UK) and chose a username and password, (just alpha/numeric characters).
I then continued with the installation which went well with no reported errors.
At the end of the installation I chose to re-boot immediately.
After re-booting the Q4os system booted automatically and I was asked for my username and password.
These I entered but was rejected with an invalid username/password.
After re-trying a couple of times I had a thought that maybe my keyboard was not mapped to the expected Q4os keyboard as my keyboard is SwissFrench.
I checked to equivalent mappings on a British(UK) keyboard and tried again using the British keys; still no luck.

Thinking that the installation may have failed at some point I uninstalled Q4os, (using the winsetup program and selecting "Uninstall") then re-installed; same problem.

I uninstalled and re-installed again but this time used a VERY simple password; still not able to login.
I even checked my password mapping by typing it after my usename as a check.

I have now uninstalled Q4os again and am looking for a solution.

I would suggest that the initial winsetup form should include questions concerning keyboard layout and password restrictions as many people use different languages AND different keyboards.

Can you help please?

Thanks for your hard work on an interesting and promising project.

Tony

Welcome to the forum smile

Are you greeted with the SDDM graphical login screen? Please post a screenshot of that login screen, with the message you get. We are not able to reproduce the issue, the first login always passes fine on our testing device. You can attach files up to 300kB in size.

Maybe you have a problem with the username and not with the password

Re: Unable to login after sucessfully running winsetup 6.8

Thanks for your reply.
I eventually had some success and you were correct, it was a combination of Usename/Password and System (Q4os/Windows host).
Initially, filling in the initial winsetup form I used the username with which I was logged in to in windows, (with administrator rights), but chose another password thinking that these would be used by Q40s as the admin account and would separate me from the windows system.
After installation completion the initial linux login screen came up but logging in with the usename/password that I had initially entered failed.
Re-installation and re-login attempts failed.
Re-installation with another username and simple password failed.
As a last resort I used my windows username and revised password. SUCCESS!

I assumed that the username and password entered in the installation procedure would be the administrator in Q4os.
I now seem to have a Q4os installed alongside my Windows OS and looking forward to trying it out when I have found out how to boot Q4os...

Many thanks for your help and patience,

Tony
