chromium and librewolf

Just installed Q4OS 6.6 KDE and it works beautifully!

Questions:
1) when I open Chromium I cannot resize the window completely, i.e. I can shrink the width of the window and lower its height from the top, but I cannot resize it from the bottom.
I mean, the lower end of the window will always fill the lower end of the desktop and continue under the taskbar.

Is it normal, is it a way for Chromium to implement fingerprinting?

2) if I install Librewolf via extra repositories as explained in their web page, will Discover catch all the new updates safely and timely? Should I use Synaptic or Terminal instead?

P.S. will S4 Snapshot be available soon on Q4OS 6.6?

Thank you very much for your excellent job and to the community for any help!

Re: chromium and librewolf

1) We can’t reproduce this issue. If a window is maximized, it cannot be resized. However, if you set a custom size for the window (including Chromium), it can be resized from all sides. Could you please provide a screenshot ?

2) Yes, the repository will be added and package manager will take care about updates.

3) S4-snapshost is just available for Q4OS 6 smile Download https://sourceforge.net/projects/q4os/f … ntal_apps/ , see https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4510

Re: chromium and librewolf

Thank you for the quick reply!

1) Only with Chromium I cannot resize from the bottom. Anything else works just fine.

I am sure there is an issue here, even because whit Chromium unmaximized, I cannot scroll to the very end of any web page!

Sorry, but I could not understand how to post images here. Can I send screenshots to support@q4os.org?

3) Excellent, thanks!

Re: chromium and librewolf

We have received the screenshots.

And yes, now we understand the issue. But it's easy. Just shrink Chromium window from the top and then move it a bit upper. The bottom edge will appear and then you are free to resize the window arbitrarily smile

Re: chromium and librewolf

I promise, I tried to do what you suggested, but it did not work.

The bottom of the Chromium window just remained stuck under the task bar and could not be grabbed or made visible in any way.

Just now I entered in Panel Configuration, resized panel height and all the problems disappeared. I think it was just a glitch.

Thank you for your patience!!

That's really weird, what exactly didn't work ?
1. Shrink the window from the top edge ?
2. Move window up with your mouse ?
3. Something other ?

If you move the window up, the bottom edge just gets above the taskbar. You can repeat this procedure more times. It works just fine here.

Re: chromium and librewolf

Yes, I could not move the window with the mouse.

The problem was fixed by resizing temporarily the panel height (after the fix I brought the panel size to what it was and the fix remained).

Before the fix, I could:

1) open Chromium with maximized window and scroll any page in its entirety

2) unmaximize the window by clicking the central button at the top right of the window
3) unmaximize the window by double-clicking the top center of the window
4) once the window was reduced, I could resize from left, right or top

Once you resize a window, you would expect the window to keep its size and be moved around the screen by pulling it in any direction.
In my case the bottom of the window remained locked under and behind the task bar and, by pulling it, I would only make it it higher or shorter.

Moreover, in 2) 3) and 4) I could not scroll and read to the end of a web page!

The fact that the window appeared to be "tied" to the task bar, induced me to resize the task bar and that worked.

I hope I made it clear, and - as you said - it was weird.

Are you able to move windows other then Chromium ?

Really puzzling, there must be some kind of glitch with your setup.
Please see the video attached and post back what phase have you failed at.

Re: chromium and librewolf

As I said, luckily I was able to solve the problem and now everything works fine.

The problem happened with Chromium only, any other window application could be resized and moved around the desktop normally.

I watched the video you sent and I can tell you this:
Yes, I could shrink the window and make it shorter and smaller.
But then, if I pulled it up - as shown in the video - the window only became higher because the bottom of it remained stuck and trapped to the task bar.
To be more precise, the bottom of the page was "hidden and pinned" behind the task bar.
In other words, the only thing I could do was making the window shorter or higher. But I could not move it freely around the desktop.

The only thing I can add is that I was on a fresh install (I installed Q4OS 6.6 yesterday and only today I noticed the problem.

Re: chromium and librewolf

Well, we understand you fixed the issue, that's great smile But we don't understand why you couldn't move the window with mouse. It just works. So we conclude there had to be some problem with window moving and we are trying to figure out why.

Re: chromium and librewolf

We conclude that it was likely a temporary glitch, as we are unable to reproduce the issue in any way. If you are able to reproduce the problem - Chromium window cannot be moved with mouse - please feel free to report it here, and we can try to identify the root cause.

Re: chromium and librewolf

I am impressed by the care you put in following up with any request from users!

Going back to the present issue, I cannot reproduce the problem anymore.
I booted into the live session I used yesterday to install Q4OS but Chromium worked just fine there.
I really think it was a glitch.

Thank you again - much appreciated!

Re: chromium and librewolf

S4 Snapshot seems a great idea, both as a backup of one's current setup and as a method of installing it on another computer.

I have installed the program and see that by default it places the image in /home/snapshot.  Presumably, I can load it directly onto a USB instead so as not to use space on the main system? It'll be about 6 GB, is that right?

Thanks for your help - and for the wonderful Q4OS KDE Plasma 6.

Re: chromium and librewolf

Yes, you can direct S4-snapshot to save the .iso file to a arbitrary directory, for exaple USB.

Can anybody help me with this?

I have one USB that I only use to save the latest .iso generated by S4.
When I want to have a newer .iso, I open S4, save the .iso in /home/snapshots and then I use Imager to flash it into the USB.

Now, I tried to direct S4 to save the new .iso to the USB directory, but it failed, error message said "insufficient space"
Then I opened the USB with Disks (see image; the first partition contains the older S4 .iso).

Question: how should I format/partition the USB in such a way that it will always automatically accept to save a new .iso?

Thank you everybody in advance

Re: chromium and librewolf

You can save a .iso file on a formatted USB data flash drive, but you can’t directly make it bootable with S4-snapshot. Maybe it wasn’t clear before, we apologize for ambiguity.
