I recently moved from MX Linux to Q4OS KDE after I decided that KDE using Wayland was the future.
I tested a few KDE distros: MX 25, Ultramarine (Fedora) 43, Sparky 8.1 (semi-rolling), Neptune 9 and Q4OS 6.
For me, Q4OS 6 came out on top and Neptune 9 came in 2nd.
I am a multi-booter. I usually keep a few Linux distro partitions and a seldom used Win 10 partition.
To manage my often changing boot GRUB partitions, I prefer using (GUI) Grub Customizer.
Unfortunately, Debian 13 repos no longer include Grub Customizer and several versions found on the web no longer work.
Latest working Grub Customizer AMD64 DEB file: https://distro.ibiblio.org/debian/pool/ … ustomizer/
When running Grub Customizer on Q4OS the first time, I saw no themes available ( /boot/grub/themes/ was missing )
Since I liked my MX Linux "ribbon" grub theme, I could have (as root) copied my MX themes folder to Q4OS /boot/grub
However, there is a better way: download the MX 25 DEB file from https://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/main/g/grub-themes-mx/
Once downloaded, right-click the DEB file and choose open with Discover to install the themes.
Once installed, run Grub Customizer, click "Appearance setting" TAB to choose a theme. My display resolution is 1920x1080, but I change the Grub Customizer custom resolution to 1280x720.
There are lots of simple and fancy grub themes out there but MX seem to be the only easily installed DEB version. Perhaps Q4OS should consider making its own DEB-installable grub themes link.
BTW, my next distro tests will likely be Bodhi 8.0 and Pop OS 26.04 when they go final.
