Calm down, it's only ones and zeroes

q4osteam has already responded, see https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5683

MX tools for Q4OS 6 already work, so this is a bug.
@Germ
So we would need the following info to track down the issue:
- What desktop are you using, Plasma, Trinity, other ?
- Specify the .qsi file you downloaded
- Run in terminal and post back the output:
$ qrepolist
- Provide the install log "$HOME/.appsetup2/log/setup-mxtools-xxx.log"
Offline
Plasma desktop
setup_q4os-mxtools-plasma_5.3-a1.qsi
In terminal I get "permission denied" as user and as root.

What if you run the setup_q4os-mxtools-plasma_5.3-a1.qsi setup once again ?
In terminal I get "permission denied" as user and as root.
For what command ?
Strange ..
Yes, run command and post the output:
ls -l $HOME/.appsetup2/log/

Running again with qsi installer shows:
MX Tools software is already installed, so cancelling installation ...
Tried to run from terminal with command
"setup_q4os-mxtools-plasma_5.3-a1.qsi" and again with

Both returned permission denied as user and root

You can't execute the installer directly. Instead do:
$ appsetup2.exu setup_q4os-mxtools-plasma_5.3-a1.qsi
ls -l $HOME/.appsetup2/log/

It's really curious. We would like to solve it. Please run in terminal:
$ reportq4
and send the debug file generated via email support@q4os.org , or attach it here for us to analyze.

We confirm reception of reportq4. As we have took a look something is not correct here. Some essential log files are truncated to the 1 byte size. So before we can conclude possible issues, please run the command and post back:
$ sudo ls -l /var/log/live_inst/

It seems that something went wrong during or after the installation. The log files are 1 byte in size. Unfortunately, we have too few information to determine what is wrong, and the log files are also missing. Could it be a hard drive problem ? For now, we can only recommend that you check if the hardware is fine and perform a fresh installation.
Offline
I don't think it's the hard drive. It's less than a year old. The system is fast and responsive with no other errors. I'll do some checking.
I have used the QSI Installer to install other things without error messages and the MX Tools did install OK. I just thought they did not by the error message.
I'll keep it "as is" and report back if something becomes apparent.
Thank you for your efforts. ![]()

Okay. There are at least two strange things going on in your system (mx-tools installer fail and truncated log files), so keep an eye out for that. If you need any more help, feel free to ask ![]()

I've noticed another little glitch. There is a "Install Debian" link on the Desktop. I delete it and next boot it re-appears. Not a big deal, but annoying. It has happened three boots in a row.
I'm thinking about re-doing the Q4OS install.

It appears MX tools hasn't been installed properly. You can make a check:
$ ls -l /usr/bin/add-calamares-desktop-icon*
$ dpkg -S /usr/bin/add-calamares-desktop-icon
and post back the result.

We can see Mx-tools are not installed correctly because "add-calamares-desktop-icon" binary isn't diverted as it should be. We would recommend you to reinstall mx-tools.
- First of all do removals:
$ sudo apt --purge autoremove s4-*
$ sudo apt --purge autoremove mx-*
$ sudo apt --purge autoremove q4os-mxtools*
$ sudo apt --purge autoremove q4os-s4-snapshot
- Download the most recent Mx-tools Plasma installer from https://sourceforge.net/projects/q4os/f … ntal_apps/ and install it.
- Post output of the commands for us to check:
$ ls -l /usr/bin/add-calamares-desktop-icon*
$ dpkg -S /usr/bin/add-calamares-desktop-icon
This procedure may fix all the glitches you encountered.
