Re: Q4OS 6 Andromeda released

See what's new in Trinity compared to Q4OS 5 (which ran R14.1.1):

R14.1.2
R14.1.3
R14.1.4
R14.1.5

Re: Q4OS 6 Andromeda released

Should I try it on the old Acer I've had so much trouble with?

@Germ
Yes, this bug report is still active and open. We have not still received the hardware to test and cannot reproduce the issue on another hardware. So we cannot investigate further at this time. We are guessing that it is not fixed, but who knows.

If you try this and report, it might save us some time-consuming investigation. But again, we do not think this issue is fixed.

Re: Q4OS 6 Andromeda released

We can also encourage our Plasma users to try Debonaire visual theme, see an excerpt from the announcement:

We intentionally keep the Plasma desktop appearance as the stock one, however those who love Q4OS brand should switch to Q4OS's dedicated "Debonaire" theme in the system settings. It's a simple step and you get Q4OS stylish look-and-feel of your desktop session.

The Debonaire theme is installed by default, no additional setup is needed.

Re: Q4OS 6 Andromeda released

Excellent work team. It worked fine in a Tuxedo Pulse and I will install it later in Dell Precision with I9 processor. The only minor thing is that the "show virtual desktops" effect when you point your mouse in the upper left edge does not work well on my laptop.  Any ideas?

Re: Q4OS 6 Andromeda released

Hi, I tested Q4OS 6 Trinity Beta and installed the Basic option on a test PC as the only OS. I noticed that the RAM usage after booting up and disabling un-needed autostart apps was around 500MB. Q4OS 5 was lower at around 350MB.

Wondering if the final release will have lower RAM usage than the Beta.

Thanks.

Re: Q4OS 6 Andromeda released

Likewise, I also tried the Trinity and KDE Plasma versions, but both are using too much RAM.
Trinity is around 600 to 700 MB of RAM.
KDE Plasma is around 1.2 GB of RAM.
Actually, I'm still testing it for now.

OK.  I'll give it a try and report back.

Edit:  I installed it on a newer machine and it is running beautifully.  Will give the old Acer a go tomorrow.

Re: Q4OS 6 Andromeda released

I just noticed the Andromeda release today. I installed it under KVM on Debian 13 off the live CD. It was a completely pain free install. The installer is great! I'll commit it to some hardware shortly and give it a more thorough work out.

Just a quick note to say thanks for the little menu picker on the TDE install - neat!

TDE 14.1.5 isn't released yet, right? How and why is it used in 6.1?

Re: Q4OS 6 Andromeda released

14.1.5 is the preliminary stable version. We compared the source code with version 14.1.4, examined the differences and the patches that we considered non-transparent or insecure have been excluded. This version has been extensively tested and passed our QA.

Re: Q4OS 6 Andromeda released

One thing I have definitely noticed on my Macbook Air 7,2 is that power management is vastly improved in Plasma. WIth Aquarius it would flatten the battery in about 45 minutes - been running for nearly 3 hours and still plenty of juice left. Oh and it is the original battery too. Sleep is working properly rather than just blanking the screen as swell.
All round a big improvement - thanks guys!

Re: Q4OS 6 Andromeda released

Thank You Q4OS Team for this great distro!
Q4OS 6.1 Andromeda Trinity works very well on my very old PC with 775 socket Intel Core Quad Q9550 processor, which was released in year 2006!
I really was thinking of throwing this old PC to the trash can.
The only thing is, I can not install proprietary NVIDIA driver on this PC. Only nouveau driver can be used. Maybe because of the old GT710 graphics card?

Probably yes. You could check a possible driver with the command:
$ nvidia-detect

This is interesting and good to hear! I've been tinkering a bit to try to get battery life in a really sweet spot on my 12" MacBook. Are you using TLP or just the built-in power management?

Re: Q4OS 6 Andromeda released

Unfortunatelly, I will be forced to downgrade to Q4OS 5.8 Aquarius. The reason is, there is no proprietary Nvidia drivers for my graphics card available in Andromeda. Without them I have to deal with sluggishness in scrolling, dragging files/folders, watching YouTube and other effects. nouveau driver is not good...

In all other aspects, Andromeda is a great distro!

That's a shame. Are you experiencing these issues on Plasma or Trinity desktop ? Maybe configuring the Nouveau driver would resolve these issues, see
https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/KernelM … eters.html
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Nouveau ...  .. something may be feasible

Nouveau driver should be pretty solid for most of hardware. Maybe these issues are not connected to video driver at all ?

Re: Q4OS 6 Andromeda released

Ah i wanna downgrade too, these little issues like no horizontal scrolling, broken kdesktop/autostart, are hindering with my productivity a lot.. but i don't want to downgrade because new Trinity apps/optimizations are great, and even bluetooth and wifi perform a lot better in Q4OS 6
