Trinity - Q4OS 6.1 Questions/Reviews

Last used trinity version on 4.X series in a old Compaq Core2Duo system. 5.X series had constant bugs, hence skipped 5.X series. Installed 6.1 few days ago. Some issues I have noticed:

1. In this system, 4.X ran good, even XPQ4 skin. 5.X never installed properly. If installed, constant crush. 6.1 did hanged during installation after that very usable with Debonaire theme. Using most other theme crushing during work. Hence sticking with Debonaire.
2. Installing network Manager crushing system. after removal it got stabilised.

This issues are not present in Plasma version I've used in other fairly new machine. Seems TDE has lots of issues despite its very low resource hunger.

Things I am not happy with Q4OS particularly in comparison with my favourite Mint -

3. Application store has very few apps, only 65. Didn't progress at all since 4.X.
4. Can't open folder as administrator to paste something.
5. Olular can't open pdf from USB drive. However VLC and amarok can play respected files. Little progress from 4.x series.
6. Can't resize partition through Gparted. I had used entire drive for install.
7. No native app for .zip/.rar file, not even in software manager.

Also,

One huge huge disappointment over 4.x & 5.x to 6.x is MX tools no longer works.

Any help/suggestion really appreciated.

Thanks for reporting smile

MX is currently based on Debian Bookworm, so we can't adopt the tools for Q4OS-6 based on Debian Trixie. We would have to develop MX tools faster than the upstream developers smile However, we are working on the tools, and they will definitely be available depending on the upstream development cycle of MX.

7. Did you try to install and use ark-trinity ?

6. We are not able to reproduce the issue. Gparted works fine and resizes partitions as commanded. We would need more specific steps to be able to reproduce and investigate.

5. We are not able to reproduce the issue. Okular opens pdf files from USB drive just fine. We would need more specific steps to be able to reproduce and investigate.

4. You can edit files as administrator. Right click on a file > Actions > Edit as admin. If you want do some file management as administrator, Main menu > Applications > System > Super user > run File manager Krusader or Konqueror

3. They are featured applications only. Just run Software center > click on the "Synaptic icon" on the top toolbar. You will get the full APT software database.with Synaptic available.

2. Edit: We can confirm a bug in the external Network Manager application. Although it doesn't crash and installs without issues, the Network Manager applet doesn't appear in the system tray. A workaround is to run the applet from the terminal:
$ nm-applet
We are working on a fix.

We are not able to reproduce such issues. Would you specify what didn't work or what was crashing actually, so we could investigate ?

It's pretty cool, it's just that if i try to open an archive inside archive, it's read only (xarchiver in comparison is read-write)

this one's a pretty common n irritating issue, sometimes opening a file via konqueror sends the file path as the protocol, but the apps which do no support that protocol can't open it properly (idk how to word this properly so here you go, an example)
suppose you open system://media/device/file.pdf, the apps are launched as "qpdfview system://media/device/file.pdf" and then when qpdfview tries opening the file, it throws an error that protocol not recognised.. same thing happens with mtp, etc. maybe OP is using qt5/qt6 okular instead of okular-trinity

Or type in krunner "tdesudo kate <path to file>" (untested)

Or maybe the new tdealternatives?

I don't get why y'all don't use tdenetworkmanager instead, it works perfectly for me and is really light on resources too in comparison to nm-applet

Yes, it's a Trinity issue, but not the one @just1acc reported. Again, opening pdfs on USB stick from within Okular application works fine here. We need a feedback from OP poster to be able to investigate issues he reported. Please keep the thread clean.

Re: Trinity - Q4OS 6.1 Questions/Reviews

Thank you for the prompt reply. I shall be trying the suggestions and update.

1. Network Manager - Default one working fine, so not an issue for me.
2. Okular issue can be managed - from app itself or copying to system.

3. Synaptic - I know. But I guess the comfort of double click spoiled me.

Re: Trinity - Q4OS 6.1 Questions/Reviews

4. Installed ark-trinity. Usable.

Could not get working the following issues. Kindly advise when time permits:

a. How to open a folder as administrator/permission so that I could paste something. Easiest way possible.

b. As installation of Q4OS was hanging in this machine, I 've opted for whole disk install instead of manual partition. Now gparted can't shrink it within system. Not using bootable partitioning tool fearing it may cause issue in system booting.

Are you trying to resize mounted root filesystem ? It's not possible in Linux. It's only possible to resize unmounted partitions, so you need to boot from live media for example to achieve that.

Re: Trinity - Q4OS 6.1 Questions/Reviews

Great advise. Most things sorted now.

Will be waiting for MxTools to be released, since MX beta based on latest Debian just launched. No hurry though.

Re: Trinity - Q4OS 6.1 Questions/Reviews

Waiting for the outcome (Mx tools).

For the last few days I've found most of the bugs can be prevented if I stick with debonair them.
