KNode TLS

This is my first post to this forum, so to start greetings. I'm glad to join you. I've been trying out Q4OS with Trinity. I certainly appreciate the lighter resource usage. This is probably more of a TDE feature request, but I thought I'd start here, since I'm most likely to use Trinity in the context of Q4OS. Is adding TLS (port 563/snntp) to KNode a big lift? That would be nice to have. I'm using Pan under KDE right now. I'd appreciate using KNode again. I'm also curious about the KMail experience in the pre-Akonadi world. I'm using Kontact with KDE at the moment.

Re: KNode TLS

KNode is a project developed by KDE (not by Q4OS developers) and is no longer maintained.
It is no longer even available in supported versions of Debian or Q4OS.

If you are talking about kmail-trinity then it is an interesting ride.
In a nutshell there are so many things it does badly that quite frankly it is not worth the effort any more.
2FA is the big stumbling block.
YMMV of course.

Most folks use Thunderbird or Betterbird, other email applications are available.

There does seem to be a knode-trinity package in Aquarius, apparently part of tdepim. The last update was 9/25/2023. It sounds like it might not be getting much use...

When you say it does things badly, is it buggy (crashes, etc.), or a functionality/useability thing? I noticed that Thunderbird was the default PIM in Aqurius Trinity. That's not surprising. I'm not a fan of the Thunderbird user interface, but it seems to be the open source PIM getting the most attention these days. I've recently tried a few things, including claws-mail, Seamonkey, Thunderbird, Evolution, and the modern KDE Kontact. So far KDE Kontact is the one I like most overall, aside from the loss of Usenet.

Re: KNode TLS

These days it is just useability. The only suggestion I have is try it and see what you think.

You're right, even if KNode is no longer supported by the KDE project, it is sill developed by the TDE project.
So you should submit your request for adding TLS (port 563/snntp) to KNode to the KNode team (https://scm.trinitydesktop.org/gitea/TD … ster/knode) .

Re: KNode TLS

Thanks for all the answers. I'll chase down making a request on the upstream.
