Q4OS 6 enters beta testing version

We consider Q4OS 6 stable enough to move from alpha to the first beta version. Download here https://sourceforge.net/projects/q4os/files/testing/

Re: Q4OS 6 enters beta testing version

I have already tested on two machines. It is a great distribution without the wayland of course. My only problem is that I can not install properly the drivers in a tuxedo pulse gen 3 laptop. I  have installed tuxedo-drivers and tuxedo-control-center after installing linux-headers but the cpu temperature is not showing and the dmesg complaints about the signing of the tuxedo modules.
Any ideas?

Go into your bios at startup usually one of the F keys such as F1/F2 and turn off secure boot as well as fast boot.

Re: Q4OS 6 enters beta testing version

hey @q4osteam there seems to be smb4k-trinity in latest trinity's ppa archive
does smb1 as konqueror plugin work in q4os andromeda which uses the same release??
(i've themed konqueror pretty well and now the only thing keeping me away from it is no smb support)

is testing version based on debian 13 stable repo?

if i install testing version of q4os andromeda right now, will i be able to update it even after stable version comes out by running apt commands or would i need to reinstall the entire os?

also, could you release an installcd for tde?

Conflating a lot of unrelated questions in one post is not the ideal way of getting a response - rifle not scattergun!

However:-
The ppa is of course an ubuntu repository. Many packages can happily be installed from ubuntu in Debian and vice-versa.
I think the package in the ppa is the same a the smb4k that you will find in the Andromeda repos.
Will it work - that's question. smb1 has of course been sunsetted so it probably will work if you've got an NT4 box or something running Server 2015 etc. Will it talk to Windows 11 - hmmm - you need to do a bit of testing. I used smb4k back in the day in an all windows environment and it was fine. But that was 2010 ish..

TDE Andromeda Beta is based on Debian Trixie repos now and is therefore Stable from a Debian POV.

*Normally* Q4OS testing would be updatable - unless there's some huge gotcha that requires a fresh install....

I guess the dev team would need to answer the install CD question but Trixie is a lot tubbier than Bookworm.

Happy to be proved wrong as normal.

Thanks bin! I'll post unrelated questions as different posts. About smb1, i only use it to transfer files on my tablet via Mixplorer which works great~ Since smb4k-trinity is the only way to get smb to work with tde apps like konqueror-trinity I hope it works

I guess it's better to wait a couple weeks then~

Re: Q4OS 6 enters beta testing version

I see TDE Beta 12 is now available - downloading!
Obviously any changes will be applied to existing Beta 11 but it's good to test.

UPDATE:-
System Config Printer !!!!! YAY - thank you!!!

Ill second bin, as both system-config-printer and printer-drivers-all are a must.

Re: Q4OS 6 enters beta testing version

I plan to try out Q4OS 6 Trinity. Can the test version be easily upgraded to the production version once it is released? Or is a fresh install preferred?

Can you share a little more why that is? Are there packages in the beta that are not being updated?

Re: Q4OS 6 enters beta testing version

Test version may have some aspects that will not lend itself to being upgraded properly and you don't want to carry over issues into a new OS. Users many times have packages installed in the test version that may not work when upgraded to the new version.

This is the case with a wide number of distros not just Q4OS.

Re: Q4OS 6 enters beta testing version

Will there be a 32 bit version of Q4OS 6 despite Debian's support for 32 bit seems to be stopped?

See also 5.1.2 in https://www.debian.org/releases/trixie/ … es.en.html

Re: Q4OS 6 enters beta testing version

We don't plan to release 32bit iso at the moment, however we may still provide Q4OS-6 repositories for 32bit architecture. We will consider all the possibilities and decide some time after the official Q4OS 6 release.

Re: Q4OS 6 enters beta testing version

Thanks for the answer, although it is a bit disappointing. Personally I would really welcome yet another 32 bit version.

Will there be an Andromeda version of the XPQ4 software as well? If there is a Beta, where can I find it?

You need to ask the people who develop XPQ4 - it's not a Q4OS project.
