I was using Q4OS for the last two years and accidently discovered that pressing F4 in Firefox ESR opens a new tab right next to the current tab.
I thought this is standard Firefox ESR behavior and started using it a lot in the last 2 years.
Unfortunately my new computer isn't currently compatible with Q4OS (to new) so i'm currently running MX Linux KDE with a newer Kernel.
That's when i discovered that pressing F4 does not open a new tab in Firefox ESR but opens a Terminal there.
In Linux Mint pressing F4 in Firefox ESR does nothing at all.
So do you guys ship a special version of Firefox ESR or whats going on?
I did 100% sure not install an Addon for this but i also think (not 100% sure anymore) i added the official mozilla repo at some point to get updates faster.

Interesting.
FF new tab is by default Ctrl-T
In Q4OS Trinity Ctrl-T on the Desktop will open a new terminal.
In Konqueror F4 opens a new terminal.
I haven't run MX for a while but I do recall F4 used to open a drop down terminal window - used to drive me nuts as I use Midnight Commander a huge amount and F4 is a file edit key. In the end I used to dump their keyboard shortcuts and just reset to default.
So, you see nothing is fixed. Keyboard shortcuts are what it says on the tin.
Indeed, in Mint F4 does nothing, in my version of KDE Plasma it does nothing either on the desktop or in FF.

Yeah i'm pretty much looking for a way to get that behavior back in MX Linux KDE.
That's why i was asking what Q4OS Plasma did to realize F4 opening a new tab in Firefox ESR.

Have you discussed this on the MX Linux forums? They may have some suggestions.

The Solution was to create a custom KDE Shortcut for F4 (which overwrites the standard one) that executes the following:
firefox-esr --new-tab about:blank
