TravelerOS

Not sure if this is already mentioned here somewhere but I did a search for ‘Traveler’ and nothing came up. It looks to be an interesting project based on Q4OS and more importantly it seems to work. I’ve run it intensively from an ancient lowest power possible micro USB on a Dell Vostro, Lenovo Ideapad and an old i5 custom desktop with an even older Revenger MB and it’s been flawless. Never sure how long these one-man distros are likely to last but if it doesn’t progress it might be something the devs here might like to look at adopting?

Naturally it's really slow because of what I've run it from but in a couple of days I'll copy it onto an external powered drive and see how the performance improves.

Re: TravelerOS

Thanks. It appears you need the exact digits for the search here to come good which I have now discovered.

All I can say is this things works and extremely well. I contacted the developer directly to find out how to increase the default size allocation for / and he responded within a few hours. There’s a V4 apparently being released in the fall but what it contains I’m not aware of. Have now tried this on 7 different notebooks/PC’s and it boots on every one.

Re: TravelerOS

Thats great the developer responded so quickly. Not sure what the Q4OS devs think about Traveler OS.

Re: TravelerOS

We have no problem with the project. It's up to its developers, if they ask for it, we are ready to provide assistance as needed. They even have a space on this forum, as long as they follow the forum rules.

Re: TravelerOS

The reason why TravelerOS is really slow is because of the USB drive, or the desktop enviroment. TravelerOS KDE is meant for faster USB drives. While TravelerOS Lite (XFCE) which is coming in the fall is meant for slower drives, like USB 2.0 drives.

Re: TravelerOS

I've run Traveler OS KDE on USB 2.0 drives and honestly the speed is pretty good.  Users need to realize even with USB 3.0 drives it wont have the same feel as the OS being installed to an internal SSD.

Welcome to the forums!

Re: TravelerOS

Nevermind, I guess TravelerOS KDE is meant for USB 2.0 and 3.0 devices. It just depends on the read and write speeds.

Re: TravelerOS

Exactly, as not all USB drives are created equal and Id stick to better brands like SanDisk and Lexar.  Looking forward to your XFCE version.

Re: TravelerOS

It might come out 1 or 2 days after TravelerOS 4 releases.
