As I understand it, Google in their wisdom (hah) have decided to use a new extension format. This means that they no longer support (hah) uBlock Origin. I have therefore installed uBlock Origin Lite, which is supported. However, I keep receiving a prompt to delete uBlock Origin (original) every time that I open the browser, which I do, but the prompt keeps reappearing every new session... Help?

Options you have:
1. Enable the extension, however you need to switch "Developer mode" on.
2. Keep it installed and disable via Chromium extensions manager.
3. Remove:
$ sudo apt autoremove webext-ublock-origin-chromium

Thanks for that. So, are there any security concerns using Chromium in developer mode? Will uBlock Origin work as intended in developer mode?

We don't think so. It would involve Chromium developer mode is not safe some way.

Yes

@globetrotterdk, why don't you instead try Brave Browser? It has a built-in adblock that's (to me, at least) as good as uBlockOrigin and easier to interact with. Not only that, but it has lots of other built-in features like a news reader that you can add your own RSS feeds to (waaay better than Google News in that regard), a "zoom"-like screen sharing capability, and is really light for all its extras. They're also quite dedicated to your privacy. Check it out!

Brave is also (for now) still adding back in manifest v2 support, which means the original (and fully functional) ublock Origin still works in Brave (only reason I use it as my only Chromium based browser).

If not for manifest v2 support, I actually don't like it. But since it's the only Chromium based browser I'm aware of that still supports manifest v2, it therefore is also the default best Chromium based browser.

What are you using right now tlmiller76?

Firefox is my primary browser. Brave is my backup browser or my Chromium based browser for the few sites that don't play well with Firefox. Librewolf is my extra browser if I need to check things on the same site with multiple accounts simultaneously.

Same here as I use Firefox primarily and Chrome once in awhile as a backup.

Why not use UnGoogled Chromium? (it's available in Synaptic Pkg Mngr)
It plays well with uBlock Origin, NoScript and other extensions.

I dont use Chrome but once in a great while and I prefer some features on Chrome for other uses. I use Firefox pretty much all the time.

I suppose I could, but 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other.
Biggest reason is probably because I like to have the same browser regardless of OS, and OpenSUSE Slowroll has no repos that are compatible and have anything CLOSE to a modern ungoogled-chromium.

@tlmiller76, same here and given the many distros I use/test, I prefer to not use ungoogled-chromium. I also have some Chrome OS devices so using Chrome on occasion has advantages.
