I installed wine to run mt5 on the kde environment. but then installed budgie environment and had to re install wine? is this normal?
Offline
No, typically its not dependent on the specific environment and shouldnt have to be installed again for Budgie. Is it possible Wine really wasnt installed with KDE?

this is a little off this topic. i did install q4os and wine again on my leveno m93p and it works fine on kde. but when I installed it asked for user and administrator password in setup. i did 2 different ones. but noticed when i installed an app or needed sudo it only one worked was my user password not admin one

The admin(root) password is disabled by default with Q4OS so user password is all you would have. Using sudo you would gain admin privileges with your normal password. Its by far much safer, protecting core elements from issues.

thanks for the info. about updates. i have leveno m93p i wont have any issues when their are major upgrades right every few years. they are based on when debian does them right? i only have metatradr 5 and idrive chrome etc on the pc

Support for Q4OS is 5 years and at that time its recommended to do a clean install of the next major version. In between the smaller progressive upgrades wont cause any issues as Debian emphasizes stability.
Offline
does that mean we cannot save our installed programs on upgrade right? it has to be clean install like if they move from debian 12 to debian 13 or can we upgrade in the software center?
Offline
i can use idrive.com to backup my files auto right and then re install the new version on my pc for upgrade and re install idrive on it

You can try an upgrade from Q4OS 5 to 6 but the devs completely recommend doing a clean install to a major release. Certainly you can save all your files before doing so.
Methodology for going from Q4OS 5 to 6 will be posted I assume from the devs but no you wont be upgrading from the software center to my knowledge.
If you have questions post another thread about upgrading from Q4OS 5 to 6 and the devs will able to discuss it.
Look at this thread and see if it helps, https://q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4323

I have been using solus budgie because its a rolling release but it does not support idrive. in terms of fresh install i would need to backup all of my applications or at least have a list where i can re install them in one step via the terminal. solus was a rolling release

Idrive is compatible with Debian 12 so I assume it will be a viable option for you.

I can do a test upgrade on my external ssd from q4os 4 to 5 to see how it goes

since debian 13 is coming soon i can try an upgrade in the os right? since im using same hardware? i know you want a clean install but from what i read online people say upgrade works for them

sorry for all the questions can i skip a version if their is long term support like if it ends in 2 years and their is new version coming before that? debian 12 will be supported until 2028 June i think.

Yes, it's quite reasonable to make use the full period of edition support, until you really need newer version for some reason.
