Just curious to learn what Q4OS intends to do in the long-term regarding which compositor to use. Will there be a choice or is it considering moving to Wayland and ditching X11/Xorg, or even considering the potential new one of XLibre?

I dont see Q4OS being able to ditch X11 given its support for older hardware/32bit. Wayland has been a mixed bag with my hardware and even though Fedora for instance is moving to Wayland only, I think both have to be offered if its practical. XLibre is a fork of Xorg and happened due to a personality conflict, its pretty much a one man show.
Nice to see you swarfendor437! Zorin OS doesnt intend to go Wayland only and neither does Mint from what Ive read.

Plasma mainstream is moving unstoppable to Wayland, Q4OS-6 Plasma default is on Wayland already and X11 an option. Trinity desktop still uses and needs X11 so we keep Xorg with Trinity edition.

I wonder if the X11 option will be killed with Plasma 7? Might be time to change DEs if things go south.
Gnome is also moving to Wayland only.

We will keep X11 as long as possible, however we need to go along with Debian upstream.

Gotcha, I understand that and KDE has already said they may drop X11 midway thru KDE 6 lifespan.
Will you continue 32bit support when its Wayland only given the many issues that have happened already with older hardware?

Ive been running KDE Neon just to test KDE 6 with Wayland and the 4th gen Intel and up seem to be fine but the older hardware has a variety of issues requiring changing to X11. Wayland has been a mixed bag with Nvidia and Radeon graphics cards, which I hope will get better over time.

A big issue for me is lack of screensharing, unable to record my desktop when on Wayland. Again it is being pushed through by the big boys like IBM (current owner of Red Hat) and it feels like a re-run of systemd and pulse audio being pushed by the Microsoft wannabe's of the GNU/Linux world. Let's not forget that Red Hat prior to being absorbed by IBM always had the aim of wanting to remove /etc completely from GNU/Linux which would prevent you from making blacklist.conf files in order for the hardware you had installed useable. If Wayland is the way forward I might have to upgrade my old Amiga 1500 with a zz9000 board if they are still available and use DragonflyBSD on PC - but I need to use wired keyboard and mouse to use DragonflyBSD.
In terms of older hardware, isn't it Ironic that the end of 10 is effectively green-lighting e-waste on International e-waste prevention day!
I've signed up to https://endof10.org or perhaps I should say https://www.blue-penguin-computing.co.uk has.

We would wait some time with conclusions. The lifespan of the new Q4OS-6 with X11 support will stand 5 years at least. Things may change for better over time, we are quite optimistic

Totally agree, as many of the larger more well known distros are taking a wait and see approach, planning on using Wayland but doing what they can to keep X11 available.

Im typing on KDE Neon with my Lenovo Thinkcentre M73 Tiny, that uses a 4th gen Intel i5 4570 cpu, with Intel integrated graphics, using Wayland the default in Neon and havent had any issues. Ive run a variety of tasks, including a few games and some graphics projects Ive been working on. System is very stable and I intend to do more testing on some of my other systems with a wider range of activities.
With Wayland there is no access to the compositor as its all controlled by Wayland, limited access in X11 to turn OpernGL on or off but choosing compositors is no longer available.

I use to have some M700/M900 Lenovo Thinkcentre Tinys but ended up donating them for seniors to use. I got the M73 exclusively for running Linux.

Ubuntu decided they are dropping X11 for Gnome in 25.10. There wont be any X11 at all with apps and games that need compatibility will be handled thru XWayland.
