TDE Panel disappeared -- how to get it back? [SOLVED somewhat :) ]

SHEESH!!!!

I have NO idea how it just happened. I was trying to click on the Panel's menu Start icon and the whole panel just up and disappeared.

I had to use Alt-Tab to find this window to enter this post.

Seems there's some little (or not-so-little!) issue that happens every day!!

Maybe logging out and back in will fix it, but there should be a simpler way.

EDIT: re-booting got the panel back. FINE...but (1) WHY did it just disappear, and (2) is there a less disruptive way of getting the panel back?

It was probably a crash with the panel which is somewhat common with TDE and rebooting allowed the system to reset(dont use TDE so cant offer alternative method to restart panel). Its nothing fatal and it probably wont happen again, but maybe the devs can discuss possible causes.

You can restart panel:
$ dcop kicker kicker restart

Thanks! I hope I can commit that to memory in case I ever need to use it. At least right clicking on the desktop gives an "open terminal here" action to use for the command..

If all else fails you can still restart the system.  You might want to keep a notebook of settings and issues you can refer to in case problems crop up.
