I was looking at https://www.kernel.org/ and noticed now we have six long term releases.
Is there a place somewhere that explains why we have so many? Or what is the real difference between them?

Click on releases at kernel .org top of page and it talks about the kernels a bit but not in large detail.

That is the problem, they don't really go into details other than branches compiling their own version.
