Changing the login background wallpaper

For months, I've been searching to change the default login background wallpaper, but to no avail. But last night, I discovered that the solution was so simple. Later today I will post a tutorial.

Re: Changing the login background wallpaper

@ThisGuy1996,

I don't have a "Login Manager" icon on my " TDE Control Panel.

Do I need to turn that on some how or can it be launched using | Menu --> Run Command ?

Thanks,

Bobby

Re: Changing the login background wallpaper

I think you have installed TDE modules that are not shipped with q4os by the looks of things.

Re: Changing the login background wallpaper

Nothing wrong with adding to q4os, it just won't be available to everyone. I will look into changing q4os login when I have a few minutes smile

Re: Changing the login background wallpaper

I couldn’t help it. I wanted to make it look more like Xp. I changed the desktop appearance, and thought it would be cool to change it.

Re: Changing the login background wallpaper

I found the setting, it is in the file /etc/trinity/tdm/backgroundrc you will need to be root to edit but you can if you want (just right click -> actions -> edit as root), and change "Wallpaper[$e]=/opt/trinity/share/wallpapers/q4os-wp01.png" to your choice. Just be careful what you change smile

Re: Changing the login background wallpaper

Just had a look at that command and it unlocks a few things:- thememanager style, icons, kmlaunch, ksplashmanager, twindecorarion and tdm, so should give you everything needed to make your screen "pretty" smile

Re: Changing the login background wallpaper

I wonder if these modules are locked out by default in TDE or a Q4OS build decision.

I am very thankful to have access to all these new settings.  I have fully customized my system, logos, icons, backgrounds, wallpaper

Thanks Guys smile

Re: Changing the login background wallpaper

I'm similar, I tend to test (and break) systems regularly, but usually stick to offered theme and change the background to something more pleasing to me.

Re: Changing the login background wallpaper

I must admit I have had a few systems go rotten on me, but usually can recover them, although nowadays it's quicker and easier to just reinstall than it is to fix systems.

Re: Changing the login background wallpaper

This is a dumb question, but how does one break a distro?

Re: Changing the login background wallpaper

Let a noobie answer this.  One wrong " in the wrong place and your system could stop working smile  Okay, its not quite that bad.

Making unrecommended changes to a system like the wrong path in TDE or installing a non-compatible package to your system could break it. Non-compatible packages are built for other distros that do not follow Debian's packagement management schema, like Ubuntu packages.  Anytime you install a package it has to be a Debian Jessie package deb (for Q4OS v1.x) and correct cpu architecture too 32bit / x64.  There are checks in apt-get / dpkg / gdebi and Synaptic to prevent using the wrong package.

Making direct code changes to system files could also break your distro (system).

granting yourself root access and rename a system folder or file to other than normal could break your Distro.

I break Distros all the time.  I have 9 hard dirves with major modded Q4OS Installs.  I call them Q4 because when I am done hacking them they don't usually act like an OS smile

Re: Changing the login background wallpaper

If I were to hazard a guess it would be something like an interactive sidebar for konqueror, but only a guess. smile
