Re: Multiple monitors not working

Yes, it's working so far.
Thank you very much!

I'm not completely happy or satisfied yet, but I hope with some fine-tuning it will work.
The main screen works, but every new window doesn't open on it.
I still have to find the appropriate settings...

Re: Multiple monitors not working

We will try to reproduce the issue, investigate and fix it henceforth for Q4OS users. However, we don't posses comparable hardware at the moment. So if you are willing to help us with investigation, we would appreciate it very much. We would need you to do the following:

1. On your current working Q4OS installation:
Run in terminal:
$ reportq4
and send the debug file generated via email support@q4os.org.

2. Boot Q4OS 5.7 Live media:
Do the same procedure as for 1.

In anyway, thanks for the valuable reporting and enjoy Q4OS smile

Debug file from your current system will be sufficient, so no clean install.

However it would be most helpful to get the 3rd. "reportq4" debug file from the clean system with basic profile, where monitors are not detected. We need it for comparison and to find differences between good and failed system. We know you would have to install twice again, so please do it only if you have a time.

Anyway thanks for helping us to make Q4OS better smile

So, I'm going crazy!

I created a new boat stick for your report files and installed the system fresh again on another SSD.
Everything works right away.

I have no explanation for it because I did nothing else than before. Only it is another SSD!
Can this be related to it or has something been fixed in the meantime?

Now have all report files so far, but if it works, it won't bring much or should I still send them?
In an emergency, I do the whole thing again with the original hard drive from the front ...

Yes we would appreciate, if you would ship the debug files. From working system and from the disobedient one for us to be able to make comparison.

Yes, that could be related. We have released no fix in the meantime.

To fix the issue for the disobedient system you may need to run in terminal:
$ sudo update-initramfs -u
and reboot. However it may, or may not help.

Thanks for the valuable report.

Re: Multiple monitors not working

So lucky, I'm not crazy!

The problem seems to be the Samsung SSD.
i tested a second, identical SSD again.
the error occurred again!

All debug files will follow via email...

Did you try the fix as mentioned above ?
Run in terminal:
$ sudo update-initramfs -u
and reboot.

Re: Multiple monitors not working

We can confirm, we have received the debug files via e-mail. Now it's time to analyze and investigate, we will post back asap.

Re: Multiple monitors not working

First of all, thank you for the excellent and valuable reporting. smile That helped us a lot with our investigation. Now to the problem.

After analyzing the submitted reports, we have concluded that this is a bug in the Xorg infrastructure. In the system report "samsung_reboot_installed_without_changes_not_working.tar.gz," we see that the Radeon module was unloaded due to a conflict between input devices. See Xorg.0.log:

(II) config/udev: Add input device HDA Intel PCH Line Out (/dev/input/event18)
(II) No input driver specified, this device will be ignored.
(II) This device may have been added using another device file.
...
(II) config/udev: removing GPU device /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.0/drm/card0 /dev/dri/card0
xf86: removing device 0 /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.0/drm/card0
(II) unloading module: "radeon"
...
(II) loading module: "modesetting"
(II) loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/modesetting_drv.so

The Radeon graphics module loads without problems on working systems. But why does it work on systems with certain hard drives? This is due to improper timing of various devices loading and the resulting conflicts between them. So disk speed and data transfers play a role.

We've concluded a complicated, hardware-related, and intermittently reproducible bug. However, it's not a native Q4OS bug, it's an upstream one. We'll try to wrap it clearly up and report to the Debian upstream.

Re: Multiple monitors not working

Thank you for the feedback!
Unfortunately, I only saw it now.

But perhaps it will help identify errors in the future, or at least a possible cause, and this help users further!
Maybe Debian can fix this, even if it's a somewhat unusual system configuration.

Thanks again to everyone involved for their help!
