Does anyone know how the Apper application works?
I want to modify some things in the system
I found it in Q40S software center
I sell this error
"Failed to obtain authentication."
It doesn't give me the option of administrator privileges.

Apper is a graphical package manager similar to Synaptic package manager, with similar function.
Ive used Apper in OpenSuse and honestly didnt care for it.

I just installed Apper thru the software center and had no issues. Apper launched and I was immediately able to search for apps/packages to install with no issues. Updating also appears to work just fine. Tested installing an app for system temps with no issues. Im running Q4OS 5.7 KDE.
Could it be a network issue?

I think it is a root problem.

I take that back as I just tried to install another app and now Im getting "failed to get authentication". The devs may have to take a look at this.
I sent a report to the devs and hopefully they will check it out. In my case Im not having any issues with Synaptic nor Discover.
In the meantime Apper doesnt do anything that Synaptic cant do if you need to install software.

relax, don't worry
It turns out that I am testing Kde Plasma and I am removing each service so that it consumes less RAM and I could only go down to 600mb
I really like this operating system because it is light and fast
thx for reply

I love KDE as its so customizable. Its much lighter and faster than many realize. You can turn off background services very easily.
Im typically around 635mbs in resource usage but my systems all have 16gb of ram and even with 8gb of ram its really not an issue.
Memory usage varies so much moment to moment, KDE returns your memory very quickly. I tend to run very vanilla setups to avoid issues.
Glad youre enjoying it,

Failed to obtain authentication.
We can confirm the issue reported, we will investigate and post back.

We conclude Apper application is just unusable within the default Q4OS installation. Nonetheless, this issue is not native Q4OS, but Debian bug. We are able to reproduce it on a plain Debian 12.9 installation from Debian Plasma live media. Please see also related bug reports:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471552
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo … ug=1034464
The only workaround is to run Apper with root permissions:
$ sudo apper
We will remove Apper from the Q4OS Software center. Thanks for reporting.
