Q4os crashes daily with "Error looking up passwd struct for uid 1000"

Hi!  I have done a full install of Q40s Aquarius on a 128 gb new Sandisk usb and run it on my 4gb ram laptop.  I cannot install it on my ssdi internal memory (long story - I replaced the motherboard because the charging port was broken, and now the internal ssdi memory is not recognized)

At least once daily, randomly, I get an input/output error, after which, when I click on any desktop icon, I get a further error telling me in essence the icon/link doesn't exist.  When I try to restart, I don't get the normal log off dialogue...  only the option to log off.  Logging off results in many error lines. When I reboot, everything works normally.

Is there any solution to: "Error looking up passwd struct for uid 1000: Input/Output Error?"  The system is completely set up...  I really don't want to reinstall...  especially if I don't know the cause of the problem and how to avoid it.  I have read on another post that the issue might be linked to a quirk with the Calamares installer, but that is all I have been able to figure out

Please help!

Re: Q4os crashes daily with "Error looking up passwd struct for uid 1000"

I could find this post on a forum dedicated to the Raspberry Pi.
It says that the problem is likely hardware related and the command dmesg could give details on the problem.

Re: Q4os crashes daily with "Error looking up passwd struct for uid 1000"

Thank you so much! The article talks a lot about power.  I have noticed the problem happens almost always when the laptop is on battery power. Do you think an old battery could trigger the problem if the power fluctuates (which I have noticed it does, whereas when it is plugged in the power is stable)?

Re: Q4os crashes daily with "Error looking up passwd struct for uid 1000"

I don't know if the battery could be the cause. Plug the charger in to test.
I believe the post I gave the link to discusses about the 5 V power available at the USB port level. Devices like external HDD or USB hubs with many devices connected could be too greedy and are likely to have not enough power available.
I remember also that years and years ago I had problems with USB stick (unexpected disconnect/reconnect) and the cause was that the contacts in the USB slot had become loose. In your case you could try another slot.

Did you see any message related to your USB stick in dmesg output just after a failure?
