ext4 formatted SD card

I am using Centaurus + Plasma desktop.

I have formatted a 256 GB SDXC card with ext4 filesystem to be able to use it with timeshift.
Since then, each time I insert it into the internal or external card reader and I access it (e.g. using gparted or Dolphin), the shutdown process remains stuck and the last line displayed is

[ OK ] Reached target Power-Off.

Only once, the shutdown finished as soon as I removed the card from its slot.
Otherwise I have to hold down the power-off button until the computer turns off.
Sometimes, before that, I see

[ ***] A stop job is running for Disk Manager (1min40s/1min40s)

The mount commands returns this relevant line:

$ mount
/dev/mmcblk1p1 on /media/laurent/d4da2a9b-45ca-4abc-8380-82d005d2afa9 type ext4 (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uhelper=udisks2)

Any help would be appreciated.

I have this happening too, with all my 3 systems: Q4OS, KDE Neon Testing and Arch. I think either the SD card is failing or the card reader is. One thing you can do is try a different OS/distro from a Live USB, and if the problems persists, then your SD card or laptop's card reader might be failing. What's the output of

lsblk -f /dev/mmcblk1p1

SD card inserted into the internal reader:

mmcblk1p1 ext4         d4da2a9b-45ca-4abc-8380-82d005d2afa9

SD card inserted into the external card reader
(USB-3 reader, connected via USB-3 hub, itself connected via USB-3 Express card):
No entry looking like mmcblk* in /etc, even after power-off and power-on again.

When searching to solve the problem, I clicked on the devices icon in the tray, then I got this window:

I clicked on the down-arrow ("Click to access this device from other applications" (*) ).
I clicked again on the now up-arrow ("Click to safely remove this device" (*) ).
(*) freely translated from French
Then the power-off process terminated normally.

Since then, the problem has disappeared. The power-off goes normally, even when the SD card remains inside the internal card reader.

Glad you solved it. My problem is different, since the SD card doesn't show on the devices' systray area.

I'm confused,,, what exactly is "click to remove this device" ? My Q4OS Trinity ends with "[ 7023.020779 ] reboot: Power down".
I then press the power-off button,,,
AND un-plug the power-pack.
It seems something has triggered the power-pack to continue charging the battery.
(battery is fully charged)
With the power-pack un-plugged, it cools to normal room temps.
Plug it back into the laptop; it stays cool until the machine is re-booted.

It is related to safely removing (un-mounting) an external storage device (SD-card). Nothing to do with charging from a power pack.
