4.3. How can I edit Start menu ?

Sorry again to bother you, but i still wonder about this:

Open the Start menu, click with the right mouse button on any item under the 'Programs' entry, select 'Edit menu', menueditor window appears. You will be able to create new custom submenus/folders structure and fill it with desired menu items.

I sorrowly don't understand how this would precisely work, as a window opens as attached.
How can i continue to remove something out of "Autostart" e.g.?

Re: 4.3. How can I edit Start menu ?

Yes that post will give you some information on menus and editing, as for removing stuff from Autostart I would not remove default packages manually from Autostart myself (unless I put it there) as there is usually a better way to prevent packages from starting by using control centre.

But if you simply want to add/remove items for individual user it is easily done by adding either A.) symlinks to the program/script you want to start, or B.) .desktop file for the program you want to start. to the ~/.q4data/Programs/Startup folder. and to remove them simply remove the sym-link/.desktop file from there.

Switch menu structure to be organized by categories from welcome screen or from terminal:
$ sh /usr/share/apps/q4os_system/bin/kmenu_struct.sh --help
see https://www.q4os.org/dqa011.html#desktop.3

Re: 4.3. How can I edit Start menu ?

Also to remove a package from the menu system altogether (without removing the package) you can edit the .desktop file in /opt/trinity/share/applications/tde and at the end of the file add the line NoDisplay=true And also if you prefer to use Kate rather than Kwrite you can modify the kate.desktop file and comment out that line so it reads #NoDisplay=true and it will appear in the menu after log-out and back in again (hidden by default).

Re: 4.3. How can I edit Start menu ?

Thank you both, i finally did it...

One last observation: When i swiched back to Classic/Q4OS  Start-Menu (from Welcome screen) i observed, that the "Programs" Entry was missing. That glitch vanished later by initiating "right-click -> Edit Menu"  (but without changing nothing anyway).

And thanks Dai, for your hint with the .desktop in /opt/trinity/share/applications/tde ... actually, i would prefere to have tweaks like that done by a grafical user interface (hopefully that is correct english? wink

You English is just fine wink , I don't think there is a gui currently available that will do this although it would not take much to create one, I will stick it on my list of python projects but it will be a couple of weeks before I get enough time to start looking at it as I'm in the middle of some major house works, well major for me! maybe not for others smile

Re: 4.3. How can I edit Start menu ?

I have recently seen XOS which offers Trinity DE based on Ubuntu. It also includes Kmenu, a GUI tool which helps to easily modify "Start" menu.

Hasn't Kmenu been available earlier so that you would include it in Q4OS? Is Kmenu an official part of trinity DE? Tia

You need to switch to the "Categories" men structure to enable Trinity KMenu, please see https://www.q4os.org/dqa011.html#desktop.3
