Feedback: Q4OS 2.0.2 64bit Install

I made some space on my HDD to try 2.0.2 along side 1.4.6. Everything is running as good as it should. I did encounter a couple of problems during the install, but I got it done.

This is just for feedback.

1. Live disk, desktop computer, Scorpion 2.0.2, 64bit - when it loaded to the desktop, the desktop icons were blinking, and a message with a gui popped up. Something about aR** (something) did not start. Something to do with sound. On the gui I clicked the option to end the process. Then the desktop icons disappeared. With those gone, I tried to install using the "install" from the main menu, but it would not start. Then, I went to log out, end session, then restared the session and everything worked. The icons were back and the install went perfectly.
-- This problem may have been due to the poor quality of the onboard graphics on my motherboard. This board is old and has always had problems.

2. After the install at the prompt that says something like "reboot now to use your new system", I clicked Yes, and the computer cycled to restart, but the CD did not eject. (I have the bios set boot from CD first, then HDD, so I had to F9 and select boot from HDD so it wouldn't reboot the live disk.) My previous install of 1.4 worked fine, ejecting the CD before restarting.

3. Good news. The altdeski functions better on 2.0.2 than on 1.4.6. (On 1.4.6, the terminal shows a couple of error messages even though the install still works as it should.)

I don't know if any of this info is helpful or not, but I thought I would post it just in case.

It's still a work in progress, but I'm almost there. smile

Would you specify these errors for us to be able to reproduce, please ?

OK. I ran altdeski and selected LXqt. It ran fine, no error messages like what I saw a while back when I installed LXDE. So, I guess there is no longer a problem. Sorry, false alarm.

I did a fresh install of Q4OS 1.4.6 64bit and encountered the error again when installing xfce with altdeski.

mc@q4os-desktop:~$ altdeski
TQSettings::sync: failed to open '/etc/tqt3/tqt_plugins_3.5rc.tmp' for writing
mc@q4os-desktop:~$ TQSettings::sync: failed to open '/etc/tqt3/tqt_plugins_3.5rc.tmp' for writing

Yes, this is very probably Trinity minor bug, that is known. We have investigated it in the past with conclusion, that you can safely ignore it, as this is just a message when TDE searches config files to use. This is surely not related to the glitch you reported above. It was also discussed here http://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=1528#p1528

Re: Feedback: Q4OS 2.0.2 64bit Install

I just wanted to make sure you got the information.

It doesn't have any impact on the installation and function of the DE being installed. From my previous experience, it must only happen on the first run because when I added another DE to test it, no error messages were written.
