Infuriating keyboard issues on Q4OS KDE

This has been happening for a while and I've basically been living with it; but it's becoming so tiresome now it's got to the point where I've started thinking about a replacement OS. Perhaps there's a fix...help, please.

Whenever I restart and log-in it's literally 50/50 whether the keyboard works. What's infuriating is that half of the time I'll open a browser, click on bookmarks, prepare myself for work, open my docs to start work and then...when I start typing into a document nothing happens, or when I start to type into the browser search box nothing happens. I need to log out and then log back in and then it works.

Notably, at the log-in screen the keyboard work 100% of the time. Without fail.

Any ideas to fix this? I don't know what I'd need to post for terminal output but I really need to solve this problem.

Much appreciated in advance for any assistance.

Re: Infuriating keyboard issues on Q4OS KDE

Please try to run "xev" in Konsole and check, if the keyboard strokes perform. Also try to run htop and check the CPU usage.

We are not able to reproduce the issue, so it's likely hardware related, or could be hardware failing itself. Are you using USB keyboard ? Did you try to replace the keyboard ?

Another try would be to boot Q4OS live media and see what happens. Anyway, this issue doesn't seem to be Q4OS specific bug, so an OS replacement doesn't have to solve the problem.

Re: Infuriating keyboard issues on Q4OS KDE

Hi. Thanks for the speedy response. I've pasted below the output for xev.

FYI, I have tested the keyboard on another desktop and a variety of different distros on live USBs and each time there is no problem. And, as stated previously, 50% of the time there is not problem and once I log out and log in again the problem resolves itself.

Here's the output:

@anybody
Did anyone else noticed this issue on Q4OS Plasma ?

TDE, yes. KDE, probably not.

Re: Infuriating keyboard issues on Q4OS KDE

We would need to make a test with a new, clean user profile. Please create new user, start using keyboard and post back a result.

Testing on Q4OS Plasma live usb would be helpful too.

Thanks for the link.

I looked at those settings and everything seemed to be in order. I'll try to find time to test a live Q4OS Plasma tomorrow.

Re: Infuriating keyboard issues on Q4OS KDE

Not had time for the KDE USB test yet but here's the latest update. Today, on boot up, after logging in, the keyboard refused to work for:

- Chrome/Chromium/Firefox/Brave browsers
- LibreOffice

BUT it did work for:

- Kate
- Dolphin
- Konsole
- Muon
- Search Bar and Menu
- Keyboard shortcuts

So, it seems it browsers and LO - my main two tools for work, ironically. Would that help narrow the problem down?

Notably, logging out did not work today. I needed to reboot the PC to be able to write this post.

Re: Infuriating keyboard issues on Q4OS KDE

Next update:

No discernible issues at all using Q4OS live USB Plasma or TDE.

This morning on boot up, exactly the same problem: keyboard would not work for any browser or LibreOffice. As it was working for other programs I managed to capture another out put for xev - unlike the previous posting, this output is when the keyboard is not working. Perhaps this will reveal more:

Re: Infuriating keyboard issues on Q4OS KDE

Just out of curiosity, what happens if you created a new KDE user I.D. and tried the same applications under that I.D.?  I'm just wondering if the problem is related to the desktop/application or to the user profile.  Maybe something with the user settings is messing things up.
