The Budgie/Moksha desktop distros are not comparable to the Plasma desktop. Plasma is much more advanced, so it logically takes a longer time to load it.

Nonetheless, we have analyzed the journal logs you e-mailed. We can only confirm, the boot time difference is made by initialization of SDDM display manager and Plasma versus LightDM and Budgie desktop. Most of other system services Q4OS starts even faster. You could try to install LightDM and Budgie on Q4OS to make a new fair comparison. If you would want to try really lightweight desktop, install Q4OS Trinity edition.

It's not possible to upgrade Q4OS KDE version to 5.17, as Q4OS/Debian focuses on stability, not the latest software. Anyway, it wouldn't make a significant difference for the boot time.

Thanks for the response.

Trinity will not run some of the things I use, amazingly including some KDE apps (mostly games, but I'm not a heavy gamer). But Q4OS with Plasma runs fine, after it gets done loading.

I just installed Q4OS on an old computer(acer Extensa 5620Z) that was offered to me.
I noticed that the start-up is too slow !!!

Since I still haven't got any answer so far..... I looked for this error and after some research what I did was this:

sudo nano /etc/default/grub

Then add the kernel boot parameter:

video=SVIDEO-1:d   

so it will look like this:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet video=SVIDEO-1:d"

sudo update-grub

And reboot the system

This solves the problem and Q4OS boots faster now
