Q4 os backup advice

Good Day All,

I need  some expert advice as how to make a ISO copy of Q4 KDE OS  installed on my HP laptop.

I have installed all the apps needed and dont wont to reinstall all apps if something happens and I must reformat and reload Q4 OS again.

The main requirement is to make a copy of installed os onto a DVD//External hard drive.

A step by step guidance will be much appreciated.

TIA.

Regards,

Cherenkov

Re: Q4 os backup advice

Good Day!
Usually for such purposes use full system backups.
I suggest you to try Clonezilla Live.
You can download Clonezilla Live ISO, then burn it to your CD/DVD, or make bootable USB flash drive. How to do it is very well explained on their web page http://www.clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live.php in section How to install Clonezilla Live.
Then you can make full system backup, following step-by-step examples:
http://www.clonezilla.org/clonezilla-us … -usage.php
http://www.clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live-doc.php
Use sections Save disk image for full system backup, and Restore disk image for system restore when you will need such restore.
Two important notes:
1. The HDD/SSD, on which you will restore backup (destination disk) must be equal or bigger, than the HDD/SSD, from which you have created backup (source disk).
2. If your Q4OS or another OS, which you want to backup is x64, it is recommended to use Clonezilla Live x64 too.
If your OS is i686-pae, then use Clonezilla Live i686-pae.

Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502   If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.

Re: Q4 os backup advice

This is not a backup solution, but what you could do is create a file for your preferred applications to be installed, you can copy one of the profiles located at /usr/share/apps/q4os_system/q4os_swprofiler/ these are the files used by the desktop profiler and could be used as a template for your own profile where you could add all the applications you need in one place. This would be a more clean solution to getting your preferred applications included after a fresh install and your data would obviously be backed up separately.
There are a couple of options to create a "full backup" to iso file but I think using a software profile could be a better solution (IMO) and will be more likely to be easily achievable. I have read many posts around the internet about issues with using some full system backup softwares but I do not use them as they would take more time to get working than it would to just fresh install.
