Re: Q4OS Centaurus 3.7, new 32bit release

Thank you. Finally a 32bit Testing ISO. smile

However, the 32bit install cd doesn't offer the live system, no Calamares install with Full Disk Encryption, only the default Debian installer. A live ISO with the Calamares installer would be greatly appreciated.

Also, how about considering a multiarch ISO (both 32/64bit support) based of Debian multiarch ISO?

There are a still a significant number of netbooks/tablets/hybrids PCs that use mixed-mode intel Atom Baytrail 64bit cpus with 32bit UEFI BIOS, requiring a 32bit EFI boot and grub-efi 32bit to be installed but supporting 64bit kernel/system install. I have two of them. In this case scenario, the multiarch ISO is ideal because it automatically detects the 32bit EFI, boots and installs the appropriate grub-efi 32bit and installs a 64bit kernel/system.

Downloaded and installed, issues so far with "q4os-3.7-i386-instcd.r1.iso":

  1. Live system unavailable;

  2. Calamares install with Full Disk Encryption not available;

  3. On 3.x Centaurus, shouldn't Debonaire theme be the default?;

  4. Nvidia auto-detect and driver install not functional, nvidia-detect not available for i386, installs noveau driver. It worked fine on 2.7 Scorpion;

  5. Nvidia manual driver install (debian way) fails for my Nvidia ION GF9400M, issues with nvidia.persistenced.service and kernel module loading. X loads with wrong screen resolution, the display native resolution isn't available to setup and with no hardware acceleration;

I tried the manual (debian way) nvidia driver install with the regular:

$ sudo apt install nvidia-driver

Installs packages normally, reverts to legacy-390xx-driver (latest supported for i386), but fails on nvidia.persistenced.service systemd load fail and nvidia dkms/systemd kernel module loading. Debian bug?

$ sudo apt install nvidia-legacy-390xx-driver

Same problem.

$ sudo apt install nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver

Installs Ok, no errors. Screen DPI defaults to 128 on my 12.1" 1366x768 display, had to manually setup DPI to 96 for better readability. Solved!

Thanks! Glad you like them. Nice to see some of the newly added icons already present in this release.

I was also pleasantly surprised to see several of my wallpapers included as choices. One issue I found with them, however, is that since the default setting is "scale and crop", the initial perspective of the svg files is skewed somewhat. Changing the wallpaper setting to "scaled" fixes this issue, but I don't think the first impression is great. The same problem occurs on Scorpion with the svg versions of the wallpapers. Although the file sizes are larger, this doesn't happen with the png versions. I should note that this was tested in Trinity; I'll look to see if Plasma is affected the same way. Any thoughts on the svg vs png issue? Is converting them to jpg an option?

(On a side note, Trinity displays the gradients of the svg versions of the three origami wallpapers differently than intended, too.)

Those critiques aside, the release itself is very nice so far! Thanks for all the hard work Q4OS Team!

@jotapesse
Thanks for the detailed report, we will go through the reported issues and possibly fix them as soon as possible.

@Jaerrib
Yes, we are aware of the wallpaper scaling glitch in Trinity, we will also check it and make a fix.

It's possible to install Q4OS on these machines. You need to install pure Debian first, and then use the Q4OS installer https://www.q4os.org/dqa012.html . It's an installer for ARM devices primarily, however it will install Q4OS on x86 computers as well.
