HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w

I just got this printer and found that the version of hplip I have will not support it. According to https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imag … ices/index I need version 3.18.4, but synaptic only has 3.16.11 = going to Source forge (https://sourceforge.net/projects/hplip/ … p_redirect) I found version 3.18.7 as a .run file.
running this file (sh filename) ends in these errors:

error: A required dependency 'pyqt4-dbus (PyQt 4 DBus - DBus Support for PyQt4)' is still missing.
error: A required dependency 'pyqt4 (PyQt 4- Qt interface for Python (for Qt version 4.x))' is still missing.
error: Installation cannot continue without these dependencies.
error: Please manually install this dependency and re-run this installer.

neither pyqt4-dbus or pyqt4 are available through synaptic.
Can I use this or not?

If more info needed let me know!

I'm on Centaurus at the moment but I can see the packages python-qt4 and python-qt4-dbus would they be the right packages?

I just checked and it is available in Scorpion too so should give you what you want. smile

Thanks Dia.
Got those and they are installed, so it seems not to be what is needed.

Re: HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w

It might be using python3 so the packages would be python3-pyqt4 and dbus is probably python3-dbus.mainloop.qt.

Re: HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w

Well, tried installing an earlier version (3.8.4) which was stated as being the lowest version that supported the printer. Ended the same as before, but at the start (also showed on the earlier failed install):

error: debian-9.5 version is not supported, so all dependencies may not be installed. However trying to install using debian-9.4 version packages.

Do I have to go back to Debian 9.4?? smile

3.18.6 is available in experimental (Debian) but not sure what hoops you would need to jump through to get it working in stretch, I did backport a packagea while back following the Debian guidelines and it worked without issue but YMMV.

Have you tried adding the printer (or the most similar one you can find) directly from the cups web interface to see if it gives a workable solution?

Re: HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w

Still trying - amongst other chores! smile

Loaded debian 9.4 into virtualbox (and it immediately updated to 9.5 dangit!). Same errors as with Q4OS, however, before trying to install the new hplip I tried installing the printer. Cups (in debian) found the printer and installed a driver. But when I tried to print it gave an error. Debug said it was not shared (even though it was).
I'll keep going! I will get it to work, even if I have to install (shudder) Windows in a virtualbox!
(Oh, it seems to work fine on my android device tablet)

Re: HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w

Trying different distro's I have found that Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon recognises the printer, installs the driver, and will print a test page with no problem.
Now, what is different between Mint and Q4OS that one recognises the printer and the other does not? Anything I can do in Q4OS to fix the problem?

Re: HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w

If it works with LMDE it should work with Q4OS, as normal Mint is Ubuntu based it might be a bit more tricky to get the matching software but I would check the versions of CUPS and HPLIP that are used and then see if the same (or nearer) versions are available via backports or if not it is not too hard to backport it yourself following the Debian wiki

Re: HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w

Ok,
hplip on Q4OS is 3.16.11+repack0-3
         on Mint it is 3.17.10+repack0-5

I enabled backports but synaptic only lists the 3.16 I have at present.

Still gotta find out how to find CUPS version on mint. smile
