Re: Systemback`s alternative.

Thank you for your reply.

To be more clear, I'm not asking to developers to include Linux Live Kit in Q4OS. I guess, how much Q4OS is compatible with Debian Stretch?

Linux Live Kit developer says it can be used with any Linux distribution (probably optimistic) and he realized Slax using Debian Stretch as source system.

I'm worried to loose time trying to make a custom Q4OS live CD with Linux Live Kit scripts due to incompatibilities with Stretch. I ask here if someone already tried to do it or if there are components or customizations in Q4OS which could make it too hard.

Re: Systemback`s alternative.

I haven't tried it as i have no need for it, but I'm sure this will prompt some others to at least try it out smile

Re: Systemback`s alternative.

Re: Systemback`s alternative.

Finally, using Linux Live Kit (https://www.linux-live.org/) and a 4.4 kernel with aufs support (taken from Ubuntu Server) I obtained a portable Q4OS.
My solution needs refinements, like to find aufs.ko module in a kernel provided by Q4OS (do you have any hint?), but it seems to work.

Re: Systemback`s alternative.

Linux Mint has Timeshift preinstalled, and it`s really works there. So, it should work on Q4OS too.

Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502   If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.

Re: Systemback`s alternative.

Timeshift looks pretty good from the howto I just read, and backups are definitely an area that should be incorporated into any OS. Maybe the devs could create a Q4OS installer for it to make it easier for newer users to try. smile

Re: Systemback`s alternative.

Yes, Timeshift looks fine. The most easy, and likely the clean, way we would recommend, is to download Timeshift 'deb' package from their github project https://github.com/teejee2008/timeshift/releases , and install in Q4OS:
$ sudo apt install <path_to_package>/timeshift-v18.4-amd64.deb

Re: Systemback`s alternative.

In order to build a ISO of the currently installed system, does anyone tried RefractaSnapshot?
It is available here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/refracta/files/tools/

I'm trying it with Debian Buster and it seems to work. I will try it with Centaurus, when a 32 bit beta will be available.

Re: Systemback`s alternative.

Timeshift is pretty much standard in the Ubuntu based distros, like Mint,Zorin, etc.

Re: Systemback`s alternative.

Systemback is being developed again and current version 1.9.4 was posted to Sourceforge by Developer in May 2020. And it works on Q4OS !
