[solved] remove open_with dialog for external hard disk

Hello,
this is my first post in this forum and I hope I got the right subforum. smile

I have a problem with my external hard drive with two partitions. This plate is connected via USB via an HDD adapter. When switching on, there is a triple "open with" dialog.
How can I switch off this dialogue. I manually mount the partitions via Krusader. This is fine for me as I only need a partition most of the time. I hope that I have explained the problem sufficiently.

I have been using q4os for a week and am very satisfied.

Thank you.

Re: [solved] remove open_with dialog for external hard disk

When you see the 'open with' screen come up, typically you pick an action(open in new window) and click on the box(always do this with devices) in the lower left hand corner and then only the konqueror screen will come up in future mounts of devices.  Close the screens manually if you dont need them but youll need them if you use other devices such as USB stick.

Hope I understood your issue.

Re: [solved] remove open_with dialog for external hard disk

I have attached a screenshot for a better understanding. A checkbox for permanent selection is missing with me. When confirming that I want to use Krusader comes this warning:

/ media / User / Backup is a folder
but a file was expected.

Sorry but I can not find a solution. I do not need the hard drive often but it's annoying.

Re: [solved] remove open_with dialog for external hard disk

If I use Thunar this dialog is not visible and I can manually mount the partitions. So I think that it is a problem of Krusader. Thunar is fine with me and I will take this file manager. Therefore, the problem is solved for me but the problem with Krusader remains.

I once used Kubuntu 14.04 a long time ago and I remember remembering that it was there already. If someone could suggest a solution, I would be very grateful.

Sorry for the bad screenshot. I'm not sure yet with the BB syntax. smile

Re: [solved] remove open_with dialog for external hard disk

Ice - welcome

Agree with you - there are often 'conflicting' outputs - never like Krusader either - aint choice marvelous!

Often have conflict with terminal in sudo O/S's - one works, another does not ... again, its probably only
the interface that is problematic - my WD USB HDD are always problematic - the HDD's do take a while
before they are recognized/usable, which causes some programs some difficulty on boot/execution

Glad its not a HDD issue - have fun here

Regards

Jack

Re: [solved] remove open_with dialog for external hard disk

Krusader>Settings>Advanced>Automount File Systems may be the point that is causing this.

It depends if the warning is from Krusader or KDE. You also have Desktop>Behaviour>Device Icons as a source of dialog boxes

Re: [solved] remove open_with dialog for external hard disk

Hello,
thanks for the answers.

I just restarted my PC and then came the right dialog box. I've selected "Do nothing." The partitions appear in Krusader's list and I can manually select them (hang in.) The setting is now permanent.

@ jackdanielsesq
ntfs partitions take a bit longer to mount. That's okay. I only use ext4. So I never really have problems.

Now I have also found the attachment box. With a coffee in hand, it works better with me. wink

My problem is solved for me. Thanks for your thoughts.

Re: [solved] remove open_with dialog for external hard disk

Glad it worked out IcyBox,as Ive never seen the dialog boxes you showed in your image(used magnifying glass) and this using Krusader.  Im not a big fan of Krusader as it has had some issues over time I havent experienced with apps such as Thunar.

Hi,
I'm still trying to set ourselves up and Thunar is a good and well-known file manager. But I have Dolphin installed and it seems to be just right. Similar in appearance and appearance as Thnar.

I had also tried "spacefm-gtk3" and maybe there was something stuck. smile I threw everything down again and installed Dolphin with "file-roller plug-in". Everything is all right again.

Krusader is old and the operation took some getting used to, but I could have come to terms with it. Can you tell me how Krusader gets uninstalled?

 sudo apt remove krusader

does not work for me. sad

Excuse the screenshotm. My mistake, since I'm not proficient in BBCode. Pssst: Quietly = I hate it. smile

I've uploaded a screenshot as an attachment. My hard drive is connected via a USB adapter and is recognized as a block device.

Your tip in all honor but apt and apt-get is the same except the apt-get is the old version and only minor differences exist. See the manpages for both.

I installed Synaptic and there Krusader was marked as installed and it could also be uninstalled, but the dependencies are very considerable.
Necessary changes are

ipcodecs-q4, lookswitscher, q4os-desktop, q4os-firefox, q4os-nuvola-icons, q4os-paper-icons

Krusader seems to be deeply rooted in the system and it is not recommended to remove it.
Can anyone explain to me? I thought Konqueror manages the Desktop?

Re: [solved] remove open_with dialog for external hard disk

I noticed on my system krusader is not installed, and due to that I would say it must be removable. can you post the output of the following commands?

export LC_ALL=C
apt-get -s remove krusader
unset LC_ALL

Each line is a seperate command and you should run each one in order. This will do three things...

1. set output language to English
2. simulate the remove command
3. set language back to default for user

This will not remove Krusader but will give some advice on what would happen if you tried to remove it.

NOTE: This command does not need root privileges and will run as normal user

Re: [solved] remove open_with dialog for external hard disk

Hi,
yes, I can do it. Here is the output.

jag@q4os-desktop:~$ sudo export LC_ALL=C
jag@q4os-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get -s remove krusader
Paketlisten werden gelesen... Fertig

Statusinformationen werden eingelesen.... Fertig
Paket »krusader« ist nicht installiert, wird also auch nicht entfernt.
0 aktualisiert, 0 neu installiert, 0 zu entfernen und 0 nicht aktualisiert.
jag@q4os-desktop:~$ sudo unset LC_ALL

My installation is with the official iso image of this download page.
I can also show Inxi:

So I notice in Synaptic Krusader to uninstall. Then a window with necessary changes appears. There are the above mentioned packages listed. With the hint that the action also has effects. In the removal list are then listed the packages I have mentioned above.

I'm surprised that's why I wanted to ask m, al. It's like an open-heart surgery on the system.

Re: [solved] remove open_with dialog for external hard disk

I just checked and the package is krusader-trinity and it is integrated into the Q4OS desktop, and as such cannot be removed. You can of course use any other file manager without having to remove this one.

And just for reference I did put in my previous post to run those commands as user and as you used sudo it was run as root user so the first and last commands were ineffective and I could not understand your output but have assumed it says something like program not installed...

Re: [solved] remove open_with dialog for external hard disk

Dolphin is what I use most of the time and is included with the main distro i use for my everyday work.  I did not uninstall Krusader though with Q4OS.

Re: [solved] remove open_with dialog for external hard disk

Thanks for the effort. I leave everything as it is and keep using Dolphin. However, that is already a trap for a rude user of maybe just time to uninstall krusader clicks in Synaptic. roll

But I still stay with the q4os desktop even though I'm a bit limited there.
