Re: FN key and custom shortcut

Custom keyboard shortcut wouldnt work as this is a different type of problem Ive seen on a regular basis on the Ubuntu forums. FN key and associated keys like brightness, sound, media for instance dont work.  If you Google for FN key doesnt wiork with Linux or similar youll see many references to the issue.

Heres one,  https://askubuntu.com/questions/866437/ … untu-16-04

Heres one involving an Asus laptop,  https://askubuntu.com/questions/471847/ … sus-laptop

Ive never had the issues and given the large number of laptops Ive used, Im quite surprised, mostly Dell.

Installing acpi-support from Synaptic may help

Re: FN key and custom shortcut

Also there is often a setting in the BIOS/UEFI to set the behavior of the Fn button, on my laptop it has two modes, going from memory one is set to give the Fn setting as default and pressing it gives the "normal" key, the other sets it as you would expect and pressing Fn gives access to the extended function. Might be worth checking if the BIOS/UEFI settings are correct for your expectation.

Re: FN key and custom shortcut

Very possible it could be an acpi issue but if you read the second link I posted above  the variety of the issue is quite daunting.
