gFTP ...[solved]

Use the above for website manipulation, editing, moving files etc
Worked beautifully with Leafpad as in-situ editor - miss FireFTP

It suddenly quit editing - returns 'Error: Child 30224 returned 1'

Also Gwenview just quit as default viewer ... [Error: Child 31560 returned 1] ...very strange

Have not added anything new in a while - only necessary security updates ...

Any ideas, folks?

Regards

Jack

Re: gFTP ...[solved]

Not clear from what you've said - do gwenview and leafpad still work OK locally - is it only when trying to work on web site?

Has host moved to sftp or similar - or even stopped using ftp at all?

Re: gFTP ...[solved]

Hi Bin

Affirmative - both Gwen & Leaf work OK
Also tried Kate, etc ... still a no-go .. problem lies within gFTP
Probably as a result of all the recent security upgrades ...

Site is normal - checked via their unsecure browser - will persevere

Jack

Re: gFTP ...[solved]

OK - why not try filezilla - if they've moved to sftp - which they should have - then that may do the trick. However they may have just forgotten to adjust their firewall if that that's what they've done - no more plain port 21 access for you m'lad!

Re: gFTP ...[solved]

Hi Bin

Lean & Mean gFTP worked beautifully before - gonna fix it
Why d/l 30Meg bloatware filezilla when 3Meg gFTP worked

Thats always the problem with all these constant upgrades
Might just lock & harden this bad boy - use my #2 OS for play ..

One can only wonder how many other apps go pear-shaped

Dont you dare mess with my beloved port 21, baby

Regards

Jack

Re: gFTP ...[solved]

Fixed ..

Using synaptic, obviously, I first deleted the original gftp file ... reboot, reinstall - same problem
Next deleted gftp plus all its dependencies, rebooted - checked synaptic - all copasetic.
Next install gftp + dependencies [4x files] - reboot
Next fire-up gFTP - all functions are working as per normal
It would be marvelous were life always this simple

Re: gFTP ...[solved]

Might want to scan your drive and do a memory test just to be sure there isnt an issue beyond the original app issue.
Probably nothing but had a pc yesterday that had a similar issue with a different app and it turned out to be a memory problem.

Re: gFTP ...[solved]

I have locked & hardened several O/S's that never failed me in 3-5 years - XP & MiniMe
For the same reason we lock-down the flight deck CPU - imagine the chaos @ 50k feet

KDE is a case in point - we are back to KDE3.5 - after plus 10 years of treading water
Look at the new MS Skype interface - what a disgrace - imagine talking to a bot
Those people are out of their cotton-picking social media minds

Regards

Jack

PS - thats not to say that I do not think very highly of KDE5 - finally .... peace

Re: gFTP ...[solved]

Intermittent problems are the hardest to spot and systems can work fine for long periods and still have small issues at times.

The system I was speaking of had no symptoms whatsoever till we installed this app and noticed a small issue. Testing showed a problem that may have cropped up before but wasnt considered at the time.

Re: gFTP ...[solved]

Update

Just spotted a large security [11x files] Patch Monday warning - decided to finish off our website upgrades using gFTP
before messing with the dreaded patch - after all upgrades, LO/LI gFTP still working 100% - reboot - gFTP still 100%

Thank you A Team
