q4os Winsetup.exe failure

i am trying to set up q4os on an old compaq laptop running Windows10.  I have downloaded the Winsetup.exe zip file and unzipped the file. I have then followed the steps in the Winsetup user manual and got to the point  when I am part way through the installation when it stops with the following error message
'Could not retrieve the required disk image files'
c\users\peter\appdata\local\temp\wubi-5.x-rev346.log
I can attach this log file if it would help but its long text file. Windows10 is upto date with updates.
I'm new to q4os linux and looking for a replacement for Windows10.
any help much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum @Skipper01

Your account has been promoted, so you can now attach files up to 300kB size. So you can attach the logfile in question. The common issue with the .exe installer is missing certificates for the github.com downloads site in Windows, so make really sure you have updated your Windows with latest updates.

Many thanks Q4os team for your reply. I have done an Windows update search twice today but nothing new has appeared. I completed a large update yesterday.
the file referred to in the error message is as follows(hope I'm doing this right I can't see how to do an attachment):

We are investigating this issue, however cannot reproduce it so far. Please provide the following info:

- What is your rough geo location ?
- What is your Windows locale configured ?
- Are you able to download file https://github.com/q4osteam/q4os-instal … oop.img.xz from the Windows computer in question using a browser or some download utility ?

We have made some fixes to the installer, so you could try to download the new version "q4os-winsetup-5.8-r2.zip" and post back the result.
