Partition Problem

Hi, i am having some problems with installing Q4OS Trinity.
The things is anytime i chose manual partition then boot selection screen will be stucked on wireless card and i can't chang it.
Untill i chose errase everything and let the installer chose it's own partition scheme.
I don't know if it's got something to do with my partition sheme.
This is my partition scheme:
/ root = 100gb
swap = 8gb
then the rest goes to home it's a 320gb ssd drive.

Do you mean that the installation completes successfully and you are stuck after reboot (there is no "boot selection" screen in the installer)?
What does your screen look like at that moment? Any error message? Can you post a screenshot or a picture?
What media did you use to install and where did you get it from?

Very strange your wireless card behaves differently according to your partition scheme. Maybe an intermittent failure of your wireless card.
Try to create an USB with a live media (choose that on the download page) boot it, and test if your wireless card is working.

You have only 2 partitions on your internal drive: sda1 mounted on / and sda2 as a swap partition; you don't have a 3rd partition mounted on /home.
You also have an USB drive, which seems not mounted.

Thank you for the quick response.
1) The installation completes succesfully and stuck at reboot (there's boot selection but it doesn't change)" it wants to boot from wireless card"
i can change tab and switch to bios and chose to boot from ssd but still does't work. Still stuck on wireless card.
This happends only if i chose to manually create my own partition scheme.

2) I can't get a screenshot since i choose errase everything and let the installer to create the partition in that case everything works very fine, so right now i am using the laptop.

3) I downloaded the media from Q40S website and used rufus to write/burn iso file to my usd drive.

This is the partition i wanted to create.

this is because i choose errase everthing durring my current installation and let the installer to creat the said partitions.
Hope you understand me.

Re: Partition Problem

@hchiper OP inxi data suggests the BIOS is set to UEFI, but the partition table under discussion is a legacy layout.

Re: Partition Problem

@bin - You are right. If you think the procedure I have proposed is not appropriate, please feel free to correct me.

Re: Partition Problem

Thanks to each and everyone, i have try everything possible but it didn't work so i am sticking to errase everything and let the installer decide the partition scheme.

Re: Partition Problem

The important bit here is that the drive Partition table has to be in line with the BIOS Boot settings.
Your BIOS is set to UEFI boot.
Therefore your Partition table needs to be GPT, not Legacy.

PLEASE NOTE THIS WILL ERASE THE WHOLE DRIVE.

So, when you get to the Partitions section of the install, use the Manual Partitioning option>Next
On the partitoning screen click New Partition Table (bottom left) and select GPT - all the drive entries will go blank
Click Create>Change the size to 1000 MiB - File System>fat32 - Mount Point /boot/efi - Flags>boot>OK. This will be your boot efi boot area.
You're back at the partition table.
Click Create>Change the size to 40000 MiB - File System>ext4 - Mount Point / - OK.  This will be your root partition, you can go larger if you wish but I wouldn't.
You're back at the partition table.
Click Create>Change the size to 8000 MiB - File system>linuxswap - OK
You're back at the partition table.
Click Create>Leave the size as whatever is left - File System>ext4 - Mount Point /home - OK.  This will be your home data partition.
Click Next and proceed with the install.

Re: Partition Problem

@bin still didn't work. The laptop is always started with a bios boot environment even though it's uefi, this is according to the installer and durring partition. So I think that might cause the problems.

Re: Partition Problem

Well I can only suggest you access your BIOS and see what options it offers.
In some cases it will be UEFI and Legacy with UEFI as priority. There may be other combinations.
If it allows you to set to UEFI ONLY then I would try that - Oh and make sure Secure Boot is OFF.
If you cannot sort it via BIOS then switch BIOS to Legacy Boot and when creating the partition table just choose Legacy BIOS instead.
In that case you will not need the 1000 MiB partition to start with, but the Root partition / will need the Boot checkbox ticked.
What will happen is that when you go from the partition screen to the next - user setup - you'll get a warning about needing GPT. Just cancel that, the fact that you are doing manual partition over-rides it. Interestingly if you are using auto partition setup it will try to set you as UEFI/GPT, and if your machine doesn't like that it would explain the original problem. It's one reason why I never ever allow automatic partition.
