PPTP VPN in KDE Plasma

Please, add network-manager-pptp_1.2.12-1_amd64.deb and pptp-linux_1.10.0-1_amd64.deb in Q4OS KDE Plasma version installer. This packages are only 95kb and 55kb but without them I can't connect to my ISP. Other KDE Plasma Debian based Linuxes (original Debian and Kubuntu for example) have them included for default and allow to connect to ISP "from box"!

Re: PPTP VPN in KDE Plasma

Q4OS is based directly on Debian 12, thus neither Debian nor Q4OS have the PPTP package installed by default. I run both Debian 12 and Q4OS KDE and its the same with both.  Its very easy to install the plasma-nm package to get PPTP support. Kubuntu based on Ubuntu indeed does have PPTP installed by default.

Not too easy then to connect to Internet you need to download packages from Internet first.
In our days any new OS must be able connect to Internet "from box"!

Yes, it's Ubuntu. My mistake.

I will check where this packages included by default.

Just checked Debian KDE and Kubuntu.

Debian have network-manager, but don't have pptp-linux installed by default.
Kubuntu have network-manager AND pptp-linux installed by default so I CAN connect to Internet "from box" in case with Kubuntu.

I will agree with you then you explain me how to connect to Internet to get pptp-linux.deb package without Internet connection available "from box" )))

Re: PPTP VPN in KDE Plasma

If you can get access to another computer with internet access, you can download the package and install it on your system. Are there any wifi networks in your area that you can connect with, using your wifi adapter rather than your own connection.

Long term though PPTP is really outdated and insecure, and it would be better to use an alternative.

Or you can simply add 150kb file to Q4OS installer like Kubunty did to make users life easiest.

Try to explain this to my ISP who use only PPTP VPN connection type from 2000 year )))

Re: PPTP VPN in KDE Plasma

Thats not my decision, Im not on the dev team and they follow Debian, which also doesnt offer it. PPTP VPN has weak encryption and many security issues and this is well known. Do you have any other ISP options?

For now your only option is to add it yourself by getting it from another computer or using a different internet connection and adding it.
