Hi all,
I have installed the Q4OS 6 on a dell machine.
Everything works perfectly so far except from two minor problems of kde 6
1) There is a noticeable lag in mouse cliks. Sometimes, I have to press the left button twice in order to select an option
2) There is also a delay when you open folders in Desktop using dolphin. This is delay is not present however when the folders are in different place.
Any ides?

Im using KDE 6 on a different distro to test and havent had any issues at all, such as you mention. It could be an issue with the new version or you may have some hardware issues. What are the specs of your hardware?

Dell precision all in one with 32GB ram and I7 processor. The graphics card is i1915. Also, I use the X11 version of the Plasma since the wayland have many issues

Which model of Dell Precision? If its an older Intel integrated graphics youre going to have some issues in Linux. Do you use a wireless mouse which may account for the click issues?

Optiplex 5480
The graphics card is INTEL Graphics 630 (integrated)
I do not use wireless mouse
Also, I do not have many open applications, only firefox and dolphin

Ok its a newer system with modern graphics and a 10th gen Intel cpu so lag shouldnt be an issue with 32gb of ram.Are you using a sata spinning drive or a SSD(spinning drive might be an issue)?
I would test another mouse even with it being a cabled mouse just to be sure.
This is more than likely an issue with Q4OS 6 and the devs may need to take a look at it.

Here is the disk layout. I have an m2 disk. I have tested with another mouse and this small problem remains

Quick and simple test - does this happen when running from the live media or only with the installed version.
On installed version have you applied any fancy themes to DE or mouse?
You say it works OK everywhere else so right click on desktop>configure and change from from desktop view to folder view.

The settings is already in folder view in desktop. The problem occurred also in live media. I did not install any themes.
I have changed only the fonts from the default to Microsoft Verdana and the icons to Macos Big Sur. Nothing else.

OK
Are you using Plasma Wayland or X11? Definitely try X11 - pick it at bottom of login screen.
Try a different mouse
Try different USB ports
Try using Q4OS TDE - live
Try using WattOS live https://www.planetwatt.com/r13-downloads/ this is a very low resource Debian based distro running LXDE/Openbox. It's different enough to identify if the issue is KDE/TDE or something else. I use it extensively and it's great for all sorts of stuff.

I do not use Wayland anyway. It has many problems (menus, fonts etc). I used already a different mouse and of course I have changed usb ports.
Thanks

Same here bin as Ive run wattOS for many years and it was my go to for older hardware quite awhile ago.
Could it be an issue with the fonts and icons he chose?

No, the problem is there even with the default fonts and icons. Maybe it is X11 related, because the problem does not appear in a Fedora Laptop running kde 6 with wayland.

Ive never seen the issue before and I run quite a few different distros with both X11/Wayland and KDE 6.

It is really a minor issue for me for my work. The Q4OS is an excellent distribution. I have faced also two other issues one major and one minor with the usb sticks handling and the firefox fonts but I will report them to another post. Thanks again

If youre having issues with Firefox fonts you could try adjusting them in settings>general>language and appearance.
Curious as to what USB issues youre having, as Ive not had any major issues with USB sticks, outside of just a bad stick itself.

The firefox does not seem to preserve the fonts selected in kde settings and I have manually change the fonts to something else. It is a minor annoyance, since in other Linux distributions the firefox use the fonts that you select in settings. The usb issue is another thing. If I transfer some files from my pc to a usb stick the transfer seems to be stacked in 99% for some time. I think that the sync option should be added somehow but I did not find any solution yet.

Firefox is GTK, it is not a KDE application so it follows its own rules. Most other distros are GTK based.
Transfer from PC to usb is dependant on a lot of things. Speed of your USB port, speed of the key, file system on key, file size, type of hard drive in pc.....
Search recent threads for some discussions on this topic. You need to be more specific and provide details if you actually want help with this.

The USB stick hanging at 99% is just the system making sure all the data has been reliably transferred to the drive. Speed in these actions is just as bin commented above, depending on a number of system factors.

The firefox seems to follow the kde settings (style and fonts) in other debian based distributions, such as Mx Linux and Sparky Linux. I think that there should be some configuration file provided by them and I am going to investigate it. Now, for the usb stick issue: when I transfer files from my pc to the usb stick the copy percent remains in 99% for some time (1.5 - 2 minutes) before finalizing. I have searched the web and there is a sync option that should be passed to the usb stick but I do not know how to do this when the kde automount mechanism is used.

I did some testing with a variety of USB sticks and all of them paused at 99% for varying lengths of time, from as little as 15 seconds to i minute. It wasnt standard that every drive stayed at 99% for up to a minute in all cases. Making sure the transfer is stable to me is more important than how long it takes to do it, as long as we arent talking crazy long periods of time.
I tried both USB 2.0 and 3.0 drives from different makers and had no issues getting a successful transfer.
So much depends on the speed of the drive, quality of the drive and the quality of the connection
The app may indicate its at 99% but the data may still be in the buffer, so its still has some work to do regardless of what you see.

Yes, you are correct. There is a problem with some usb sticks or the hub that I use. Also, after a re - install of the q4os and the selection of the desktop profile the minor bug with the firefox fonts seems to be fixed.

Glad you got it working! ![]()
