Good day!
After a long brake, yesterday, I have installed Q4OS 5.8 r1 Plasma (The latest Q4OS Plasma 5.8.1-n1). Everything is great so far! Big Thank you, Q4OS Developers!
The only thing, when I have installed Timeshift from Q4OS Software Centre, I have noticed, that it has very old version available only - v.22.11.2.
Please update it to the latest version: https://github.com/linuxmint/timeshift/ … ter.mint22
This program is very important for me. I always use it for my system backups. With it I can safely test my system.

Q4OS uses Debian repositories, which cannot be updated by Q4OS developers.
Why not download sources and compile it by yourself (instructions here)?

You can use the Flatpak version as it updates without issues. Doesnt the Q4OS software center also use quite a few Flatpaks?

Good to see you too, crosscourt!

Timeshift has been installed using Q4OS Software Centre, which is being controlled by Q4OS Developers.
It has not been installed from Debian repository.

I prefer to install from Q4OS Software Centre. It is the recommended way to install applications in Q4OS right?

I have tried to compile it once, but failed...

Ive had issues though at times with the Q4OS software center not updating with certain apps. I end up installing the Flatpak version from Discover and havent had any issues.
Plasma is really nice isnt it! ![]()

Plasma is a bit sluggish, and slower than XFCE, but nice! I do not know, how to turn off graphical effects...
I will wait for Q4OS Developers reply before switching to Flatpack version. Never used Flatpacks before...

Just go to system settings>workspace behaviour>desktop effects and turn off whatever effects you dont want.
I dont use Flatpaks a lot but I do use them when I have issues, need an app thats not available in the repos or have updating issues and use the Flatpak version to solve it.
What kind of hardware are you running with Plasma? You can also turn off some of services that you dont want to load at boot.

Timeshift from the Software Center is identical to the version from the Debian repositories. We would love to include a newer version, but it would need to be tested to ensure it works properly and is bug-free in order to provide reliable software for Q4OS users. It is really time-consuming and we do not have the developer resources to maintain it. Therefore, we offer a Debian version that Debian developers should have tested.
We do not have any information about the Flatpak version, however, we assume that the Debian version is tested thoroughly, so we recommend using it unless you really need a newer version for some reason.

Would you be more specific please ? What apps ? It's definitely bug as you described, but we are not aware of such issues.

@q4osteam, the issue with updating was quite awhile ago, with a number of apps, but recently there havent been any issues. Wasnt sure if someone had installed an app from the software center and may have had a similar issue.

Looks like, Timeshift v.22.11.2 is working well for now. I will continue testing. For now, update is not needed.
