Q4OS 6 Testing Alpha - Chromium open download folder issue

q4os-6.0-x64-trinity.r5-testing-alpha loaded on Thinkpad E530
Installed Chromium browser from Software Centre
Downloaded favourite test PDF file and saved to Downloads folder as expected.
However, if I go to the Downloads tool and then click on the Show in folder link it does not do so.
Instead a dialogue box is opened asking me to load software to open the location.
If I click the offered link it then tries to open gnome-software - which it cannot do,
I am then left with a box that does not respond to OK or Cancel until Chromium is closed.

if I click Cancel on the original dialogue box it will then open in Konqueror as expected.

By comparison - in a VB - Q4OS 5 Trinity latest with new install behaves exactly as expected.

Not sure if this is an xdg kind of issue but it feels like it.

Please let me know what further info I can provide - if any.

Thanks - BTW I realised this morning that I forgot to mention I had also installed Synaptic and Midnight Commander. Sorry, they are just pure muscle memory after first login.

Re: Q4OS 6 Testing Alpha - Chromium open download folder issue

We are not able to reproduce the issue, Chromium works as expected here.
- Loaded the most recent Q4OS 6 Trinity alpha iso q4os-6.0-x64-trinity.r5-testing-alpha.iso
- Installed Synaptic from Software center, Mc from terminal, Chromium from the Software center
- Ran Chromium, open dummy pdf https://www.w3.org/WAI/ER/tests/xhtml/t … /dummy.pdf
- Saved dummy.pdf to Downloads folder
- Open Chromium downloads tool and command dummy pdf to "show in folder"
- Trinity Konqueror windows opens properly

Are you able to reproduce the issue with this dummy pdf ? What is the exact link, or what are you doing differently ?

Re: Q4OS 6 Testing Alpha - Chromium open download folder issue

On the face of it the only difference is that I am using the Recent Download History button to the right of the address bar.

We are still unable to get the error, the button works too. Maybe some specific link triggers the issue ? Are you able to reproduce the issue with dummy pdf ? https://www.w3.org/WAI/ER/tests/xhtml/t … /dummy.pdf

Re: Q4OS 6 Testing Alpha - Chromium open download folder issue

Thanks for taking time with this. I will reinstall on my test box and if I can reproduce I'll do so.

Re: Q4OS 6 Testing Alpha - Chromium open download folder issue

I think we should dump chromium all together and force google chrome to supply the source.
But there are other things to do like reducing the outside distributions to none.

What kernel is it going to be?

hopefully its at least 6.14 so all the security bugs found in 6.12 are gone and all current hardware works

Re: Q4OS 6 Testing Alpha - Chromium open download folder issue

I retried with a fresh install of alpha5, 6 and the latest 7, but have not been able to reproduce this issue.

I think it will just have to be put down as one of those things!!

Thanks for your help anyway.
