Dual Boot menu does not appear after installing Q4OS on NVMe drive

Hi everyone,

I recently set up a dual boot system and ran into a problem that I would like to ask for help with.

First, I installed Windows 10 on a 2.5" SATA SSD. I then installed an NVMe SSD and installed Q4OS (an earlier stable version, not the latest one, Aquarius-5.x ).

The installation process completed successfully. However, after removing the installer USB and rebooting the system, it always boots directly into Windows 10 without displaying the GRUB boot menu (the menu with the blue background where you can choose between Q4OS and Windows).

I had a successful installation on another machine where I installed Q4OS alongside Windows 11, and in this case the boot menu appears on boot with the option to select the operating system.

My questions:

How can I make the GRUB menu appear at every boot?

Is there a way to fix this so that Q4OS is default or at least selectable at boot time?

I heard that you can apply skins or themes to the GRUB menu. Can someone point me to a guide or instructions on how to do this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Dual Boot menu does not appear after installing Q4OS on NVMe drive

Would you select Q4OS efi boot entry as the default one in Bios ?

I set it up, but nothing.

What happened is that if I change the boot order, Q4OS now boots by default.
But there is no option in grub.

I tried this from the Q4OS terminal:
Sudo update-grub
It does not even see the Windows installation or SSD.

Now, for now, when the machine starts up, F9 re brings up HP's own boot selector menu where I can now select Windows.

But this is a pain, it would be better to choose from Grub

In Q4OS i had sometime lose/missing the boot in grub (I'm multiboot OS 3 Liinuxs + 1 win10 including Q4OS, all boots there but only Q4OS sometime failed/lose/missing)
Have u try using antix/mx boot repair to check & find what bootloader installed? I've use it to bring back Q4OS's boot to grub's list.
In Q4OS we can use Boot Repair tool in MX Tools.

No, I don't know him. But I'm looking for it, every solution is important, maybe that's what will help.

I'm just getting to know Linux and Q4OS in particular.

Until now I have only had Windows in my life, which is why I have dual systems now.

Re: Dual Boot menu does not appear after installing Q4OS on NVMe drive

You may only need to edit "/etc/default/grub" and set the line "GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER" to "false". Run:
$ sudo update-grub
or:
$ sudo update-efigrub
Reboot and see what happens.
