I can't install Openbox

Hi. Since I was surprised by the lightness of Q4OS on my old computer I wanted to install Q4OS also on my newer ones, so I don't worry about the speed in my daily tasks. I was planning to install openbox on Q4OS to give it another look, but in console it doesn't install it and in synaptic it gives me error. I have seen that someone has had problems installing it, but I do not know if the system prevents it or is that before installing it I must perform some step that I do not know any help? Any help?

Thank you very much in advance.

Re: I can't install Openbox

Hello.

Open terminal and type:

sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade

then install openbox with command

sudo apt install openbox

If there are errors in the terminal, copy them and paste them into your message

Opss! Thanks Senas Komunistas, I had to uninstall it anyway because it didn't work efficiently in my computer. Thanks for helping me.

Re: I can't install Openbox

In view of how lightweight it's considered, I'm quite curious about why didn't Openbox work efficiently on naranja's computer...

OTOH, I'd also be interested in any guidance in setting Openbox up in an updated Q4OS instance. roll

Hello.

Debian wiki can help with that.

Re: I can't install Openbox

My purpose for installing openbox is simply to have a different desktop while maintaining or even improving the speed. If you download lxqt, as a friend of mine has with Q4OS 32bits, it is not the one you have with Debian which is the flat one but it keeps an improved layout. I was looking to have two desktops that don't look alike.

Did you already succeed in installing Openbox ? We are not able to reproduce such an issue. Please post error messages or a screenshot.

Re: I can't install Openbox

No. I uninstalled it because Openbox gave me severals errors with the system and my laptop. This is a pity because the Q4OS system and openbox would be a tremendously lightweight and very attractive union.

What errors ? Please specify, as we may want to fix them.

Re: I can't install Openbox

My keyboard did not work fine, wifi and something else more I do not remember now, the same. Maybe the taskbar when configured with tint2, it did not respond. In general, everything was not working properly.

Re: I can't install Openbox

This is something I encounter on a fairly regular basis in the Linux group I contribute to and it annoys me intensely. Folks wanting to run KDE with Mint or in this case Openbox on Q4OS etc. Q4OS is designed to operate with either the KDE or TDE desktop environments. Having a Debian base it’s possible to install alternative DE’s but since the base system is no longer vanilla it’s also likely these will generate errors or fail to work at all. Knowing this in advance (as you should) it’s imperative your installation is made using the terminal and screenshots taken of any errors generated otherwise how can it be possible for anyone to help? With the greatest of respect to the Q4 team (I’m a long time KDE user) BunsenLabs Linux is a purpose built Openbox distro with Debian stable base and IMO the best example of this combination. Why not try a dual boot with Q4OS and BunsenLabs? This way you can have an alternative choice without risking breakages to either system.

Re: I can't install Openbox

Yes. Dual booting is a good idea. I would suggest you to try Lilidog Linux. It is a optimized Openbox Desktop From The Latest Debian Base.

More info here.

Re: I can't install Openbox

Thank to everybody. I will keep it in mind in next time but I prefer Q4OS in my pc because Busenlabs use more resourcers. I saw Busenlab before than Q4OS but I decide for this one.
