Desktop not displayed after upgrade

Hello,

I have upgraded my machine (named DELL-1) from Gemini to Aquarius and, after rebooting, the desktop is not displayed.

I have only the following text on the screen :

Debian GNU/Linux 12 DELL-1 tty1
DELL-1 login:

What can I do ?

Re: Desktop not displayed after upgrade

I have investigated a bit more...

If I log in with my account, I can execute manually the command "startx" and the desktop is displayed !

How can I automate the launch of the command "startx" ?

Re: Desktop not displayed after upgrade

The command "systemctl --state=failed" gives the following result : 0 loaded units listed.

I investigated a bit more and I saw errors in the file /var/log/tdm.log :

There was an error setting up inter-process communications for TDE. The message returned by the system was:

Re: Desktop not displayed after upgrade

Hello. Try to delete folders in ~/.local(/share) and ~/.config too for config files, related to trinity. If that doesn't help, then create an account with same name and uid

Re: Desktop not displayed after upgrade

None of the suggestions are working.

I will do a fresh install of Aquarius with disk formatting sad

I must say it is not a very good experience with Q4OS ...

The other Linux system I use on my main PC (Linux Mint) has a very simple and reliable upgrade procedure.

I never had such problems with this system but it doesn't have a 32 bits version now and it is why I searched for a 32 bits compatible Linux system for my old laptop.

Re: Desktop not displayed after upgrade

The general recommendation from the Q4OS team - repeated in many places throughout the forum - is that upgrading from previous versions is not a good idea. Usually a change of Debian base is accompanied by the latest version of TDE (modified for Q4OS) and this can bring pain when trying to upgrade. Maintaining your /home in its own partition is therefore a good idea and makes the job a lot easier.

Re: Desktop not displayed after upgrade

Thanks for the advice.

Is it a guide to explain how to do it ?

Re: Desktop not displayed after upgrade

Since you have already broken your system, personally I think, it will be much easier and faster for you to backup all your documents to removable drive and then wipe your disk (if you do not have another OS on it) and perform a clean install of Q4OS Aquarius. Because after such Gemini to Aquarius upgrade you may have problems in future.
Also, please, read this: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.ph … 034#p25034

Before asking for help please read this topic: https://www.q4os.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3502   If you have problems with WiFi network, try to install the Network Manager using Q4OS Software Centre.
