High resolution audio on Q4OS

Can anyone make any suggestions about unlocking the higher resolution capabilities of my sound card?
it is limited at the moment to 16 bit, 44,100 or 48,000 kHz sample rate, whereas 24 or even 32  bit, 96,000 kHz should be possible.
I think this is due to the way a configuration file is written, in other words that it's a sort of "driver" issue.
I'm setting up a ~2009 Toshiba laptop to play high res audio files and have installed Q4OS Gemini/trinity, 32 bit.  The music already sounds grand at 16/48,000 via VLC player and then USB type 1 into my Cambridge Audio streamer, but I'm curious to try the full fat sound.
I know that I'll need to bring Konsole into play and so I'd appreciate it if anyone can give me an idiot's guide!

Quick reply...huh!
Bin down that road until I lost most of my hearing.
1. insert a shielded cable between computer output and DAC input.
2. Optional: separate clock between computer and DAC.
3. Get a computer audio card that is specifically for 24 bit. Although surprisingly, that made the least difference.
4. Add a MASSIVE power supply to the DAC.

Thanks very much for your comments, PeterLinu.
As I understand it, you are giving me advice about how to make the most of high resolution sound, or in other words about how to improve the infrastructure.  I can only tick point no. 1 at the present in that I have a reasonable Audioquest cable.
However, I have to return to my question. How do I get the sound card to spit out 24/96000 pcm data in the first place? There seems to be a software barrier to this, no doubt for very good reasons to suit most users. Where in Debian Bullseye do I go and what do I write once I have found the file?
(Whether this is in the ALSA or Pulse Audio layers or elsewhere I leave to those who understand these things, although any comments about this would be welcomed).

My understanding is that you have to have a sound card that puts out 24-bit signal in the first place.

The sound card is an Advanced Micro Devices Inc AMD/ATI SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA). 
Wikipedia reports that the Intel High Definition Audio specification includes the features of sample resolutions of 8 - 32 bits and sample rates of 6 - 192 kHz.
A typical kernel driver is snd_hnd_intel apparently but I did not find this on my laptop.
No biggie, this is a deep subject!

Sorry, I'm a bit of a dunce at this and am floundering: the kernel driver is snd_hda_intel. I found the command lspci -knn on Sound - Debian Wiki.

OK. It seems that your laptop has 24-bit capable audio.
You now need to turn on your DAC and connect it to the laptop. Start it playing with very low volume. In the tray is a speaker icon. Right click and open 'Show mixer window'. There is input and output. Your DAC should appear in the right-hand top drop-down list of output.
