[SOLVED] Realtek support. RTL8821CE

Greetings Q4OS’ers!

I’ve purchased a economy/value range “non brand” laptop.

The specs are more than enough for Linux
at 2.5ghz & 8GB LPDDR4 + a 256gb SSD,

Q4OS installed perfectly!

However, it doesn’t appear to recognise the
“Realtek RTL8821CE” WiFi adapter.

This laptop doesn’t have a ethernet port either.

So it’s currently cold/offline.

It was straight out of the box & Win11 replaced with Q4OS immediately.

Still has the stickers on it!

Any guidance on where to start in getting me online is appreciated!

I’m generally a rookie when it comes to Linux, I’m not a coder or awfully familiar with script but I can navigate
basic console commands, sudo prompts.

The reason I choose Q4OS is because of the interface and ease of use.

Not to mention how impressive it is, for the little ram it consumes.

Thanks in advance.

Nate.

Do you see a wifi icon in the panel (4 vertical bars). If so, left click it. It will open on many wireless connection in homes near you as well as yours. Click on it and put in the password and enter most of the other info. It will automatically fill in most of it.

Re: [SOLVED] Realtek support. RTL8821CE

Support for the RTL8821CE is in the backports kernel (6.xxx) for debian.

Installing in TDE is simple, provided you have an internet connection to start with but painful to do off line.

If your machine has a USB port can you tether a mobile phone to it?

If so then you should be OK.

To install the latest kernel you need to open Konsole (terminal) and type

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/30_debian_backports.list

Remove the # at the start of the line deb http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye-backports main contrib non-free
Then Ctrl O to save and Ctrl X to exit.
Next enter

sudo apt update

Then

sudo qinst-kernel-bpo

If all goes well the new kernel and other bits will download and install.
After that I would reboot and hopefully you'll find that the network icon bottom right will show your normal wifi to access.
When you are configuring that keep going next until you see a box to automatically connect and check it before doing Connect and Save.
Once you're on line open the konsole again and

sudo apt upgrade

to install any other updates.

Well, what can I say? @Bin

This worked exactly as described.

Wi-Fi now displays and connects as it should. Resolved!

Thank you so much!

Nate.
